Ish Monroe won the first Elite Series event ever on Amistad in 2006 with an astounding 104-8. That tournament not only kicked off BASS’ new tournament series with a bang but added Monroe and Fred Roumbanis to the 100-pound-club that previously was the exclusive province of Dean Rojas.

A year later, four more Elite anglers joined the Century Club, including Derek Remitz, who won with 111-7. Whereas Monroe caught many of his best bass by sight fishing, Remitz worked deep water with a jig for his catch. In 2007, the bass were mostly prespawners. Next year, the spawn could be at its peak or mostly over.

The 4th event of the Elite Series 2008 season heads across the state to Del Rio, Texas. KVD has been on a hot streak to start the season, he hopes to keep the momentum going in the Battle on the Border.

Battle outlook after day 1 cancellation

KVD reports in that the large fish are hard to find on Lake Amistad. Especially after the monster bags from the weekend prior on Falcon Lake. Perhaps a virus is affecting the large bite. With a shortened tournament after day 1 was cancelled, it will be a hit or miss 2 days to make the final 12 cut in the Battle on the Border. One off day and your chances are pretty much sunk.

Bass Tournament Director Trip Weldon cancels day one of the Battle on the Boarder Elite Series Tournament because of predicted high winds. “We waited until the 7 a.m. update from the National Weather Service,” Weldon said. “It calls for the winds to shift from the west to the northwest at 15 to 25 (miles per hour), increasing to 25 to 35, with higher gusts.”

The Tournament will now be a 3 day tournament. Day 1 will be moved to Friday.

<p>The anglers enjoy some Texas BBQ at the registration lunch on Wednesday before the tournament. </p>
