- BASS has only visited Smith Mountain Lake once before the 2007 Elite Series season. That was for a 2004 Open event won by David Dudley with 33 pounds, 14 ounces. Elite Series star Michael Iaconelli finished sixth in that tournament with 25-7.
- With more than 500 miles of shoreline and 20,600 surface acres, Smith Mountain Lake is known as the Jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains and will offer the Elite Series pros lots of water and lots of largemouth and smallmouth bass.
- Smith Mountain Lake was impounded in 1963 and has depths to approximately 250 feet. Most of the main lake has water better than 100 feet deep.
- Not far from Smith Mountain Lake, in nearby Bedford, Va., you can visit that National D-day Memorial, an exhibit dedicated to the valor, fidelity and sacrifice of the Allied Armed Forces on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

The Elite Series moves to its 6th stop for the 2007 season, and into the unknown. This is only the second time a Bassmaster tour-level event has been held at this Virginia mountain fishery – with the first being an Open in 2004 when Virginia native Dave Dudley was crowned the winner.

KVD misses final day cut

KVD moved up in his bag weights Friday and Saturday(11-1, 10-3), making the top 50 field going into Saturday. But he didn’t have enough to push into the top 12 heading into the final day. A very uneven and hard to predict lake caused a crowded field. Only the lucky few who caught a couple big days in a row had enough to fish for the championship.
Day 1 catch: 9-15

Kevin caught his limit, but they weren’t the fish he wanted on day one. Finishing in 59th with 9-15. But everyone knows KVD reacts and reads the situation better than anyone, so look for him to shoot up the leaderboard tomorrow.
