Your best hook and bait to catch Carp, ugh

Hi guys, i have never specifically fished for carp but have hooked them catfishing. I told my wife i would catch her a carp while i was bass fishing this year. (she’s chinese and chinese people love carp), I have the tackle and a rod holder i can stick in the ground while i’m bassin, what i want to know is style and size of a hook and what bait you use. I plan on tying a snell knot on the hook. Any suggestion are appreciated.

What were or are your favorite baits that are no longer in production either as a collector or angler?

I’m always interested in picking up used tackle and I’d like to know some of your favorite lures that are no longer available but were producers for you. As a relatively young angler I’d also love to hear about the lures from the good ol’ days from some of our older anglers. I also collect old lures and give them as gifts to my father in displays I make as decor.

To start things off, I miss the Rapala Ristoraps. The rose colored glasses of nostalgia has placed that lure on a high pedestal for me. I’m looking to track some of those down along with Excalibur Ghost Minnows just to see how they stack up against newer baits.

alrighty guys, im looking at these two rods and wondering what the big difference is. they both have micro guides and are equally heavy, so what is the difference? is it worth the 40 dolars extra to get the KVD rod?

Im looking for a rod mostly for shallow cranking. let me know what you guys think.

I grew up down south with a bass lake in my yard and I’ll never forget my first catch of what was probably a 5-6 pound bass with a 5 ft. Zebco spincaster. I was hooked, then moved to the city and kind of gave up fishing until I turned 21 and the fishing dreams never went away. I moved to Ohio and have devoted all my time to naturalism and fishing. I’m 31 now, and have been focused on primarily Bass for the last 11 years. I am not sponsored, nor do I own a bass boat, but I fish everyday and will pay any co-angler/gas fees I have to to break in. I tell my wife when she can’t fall asleep to go to her happy place not the worry place. She says she doesn’t have one (am I in trouble or what?) Anyway she asked me where my happy place was. I told her she didn’t want to know… but I’m going to tell my fishing friends.

My last tournament of the year was on a large lake in the Northern Lower Michigan in Mid September. Due to my busy schedule I was not able to pre-fish, so I phoned a local bait shop who told me that SM were the dominant fish, plus they were nice enough to offer some additional information such as I could not win with LM. Now this is true with many lakes such as St. Clair, Erie, Simcoe and Parry Sound to name a few. I thanked them and proceeded to dig out a map to look for fall SM areas. Day 1, I checked the forage and foliage in the lake, found a suitable crank-bait and headed to the first location I had picked out on the map. The first one although it looked good on the map, was a desert (No rocks, no grass, no bass.) Since I stopped anyway, I threw a few arrant casts at some dark spots in the desert mostly to make sure my equipment was functioning properly. Then I headed to spot #2 which was a rocky point, I was excited. I took a small limit pretty quickly off it but as I was fishing along I noticed something darker out further that was not on the map. I put the trolling motor on high and headed to the closest end of it. Come to find out it was a long narrow 4’ deep rocky flat with 20’ drop outside and 7’ drop inside then gradually worked it’s rocky self to shore. To make a long story short, I took 20 lbs. on day 1 and 18 lbs. and some change on day 2 from this one spot. And that my friends is my happy place. I hope to make a new happy place in 2012.

I am planning a big shopping trip to Bass Pro in a few weeks and wondered what I should have in the tackle box for topwater? I have a couple of buzzbaits already.
