The St Croix.

Let’s see where everyone is fishing this season.
2013-05-04T11:08:24-05:00 Alpena Mi. http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11193/ http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11193/#When:13:14:25Z
daughter just moved to Alpena Mi. plan on visiting every month or 2, I’m a smallie river fishing guy from central Pa. and would love some advise on small lake and river fishing in the Alpena area,
I asked some locals when I helped move my daughter in but they were a little tight lipped but I don’t think they realized I would be only fishing a few days up there and I haven’t kept a fish in 20 plus years, so anybody from around that area that can get me pointed to the right areas and typical tackle
2013-03-06T13:14:25-05:00 Rough day of fishing http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11160/ http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11160/#When:02:30:13Z
Decided to head out to Lake Jordan today to get some fishing in. It was the first time that I had a chance to go fishing since the trip to G’ville. That’s been close to three months ago and I was starting to have withdrawals. To top it off I haven’t had much opportunity since I’ve been home because of all of the rain we’ve been having.

Jordan has an interesting set up. The upper end has the damn coming in from Lake Mitchell and the lower end has the damn for Lake Jordan, but it also has a canal just above the lower damn that feeds Lake Bouldin which also has a damn on it. Today the Lake Mitchell damn was running 4 turbines, the Lake Jordan damn was running 3 turbines and the Bouldin damn was running 2 turbines. Most of the bass down here in the south are conditioned to feeding when there is current. With all that current I thought it was going provide an excellent opportunity to get some good bites. It was also supposed to be partly cloudy. Perfect. Air temperature was in the mid 60’s and water temperature was in the mid 50’s. Things are looking really great for a good day of fishing.

What I wasn’t counting on was the 50 mph winds and two foot waves. Somehow the weather channel missed the expected wind speeds for the day. Well, maybe the winds weren’t exactly 50, but it sure seemed like it. But the two foot waves are pretty accurate. If I let the boat gets sideways to the wind and waves, the waves would break over the side of the boat.

However, due to the lack of adequate fishing opportunity, I was able spend a lot of time on reconnaissance. I was able to check out a lot spots that I had wanted to look at, go over them with the Lowrance Structure Scan and mark some really promising way points.

So it wasn’t a totally wasted day.
2013-03-01T02:30:13-05:00 G-ville!!! http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11138/ http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11138/#When:09:39:20Z
Man, a guy on bassboatcentral just caught and 8 and a 12.14 this weekend! I cannot wait till march!
2013-02-24T09:39:20-05:00 Closed bass season- a Michigan DNR head scratcher http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11052/ http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11052/#When:20:23:21Z
So I’m looking at the seasons for different fish here in Michigan. Sadly, bass season is closed. But hey, walleye and pike are still open. I was thinking I could go down to the river and try out my new bps extreme reel (here tomorrow according to fedex ) as it is supposed to be in the 40’s this weekend. I wanted to keep it simple like grubs, cleos, and Kastmaster on 12Lb XL. Now, what’s to keep a smallie from taking my bait? Suppose I were to catch a river slonch? Can I take it’s pic and put it back, or would that give the impression of targeting bass? I think closed bass seasons are lame.
2013-01-08T20:23:21-05:00 St Clair in June http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11042/ http://www.kevinvandam.com/forums/viewthread/11042/#When:17:41:49Z
Im heading up your way the second week in June with a few boats from my club.
