Since its been HOT and humid across the country this past week, what would you guys consider your less-then-ideal fishing conditions?
I was out yesterday for 8 hours. Temp was 95, water was 87, no clouds at all, humid and dead calm. The foot controller for my trolling motor was so dang hot I had to keep pouring water on it so I could use it without blistering my foot. Ended up catching 25 or so bass. Nothing too big but managed a 4 pounder and a couple 3’s. Spent most of the morning teaching my girlfriend to drop-shot. She did well catching 5 bass over 14”. It was fun considering she usually sleeps and reads and complains about all my rods taking up her rear deck. The only other condition I like less is Cold (<40 degrees) and raining. But, I can tolerate either if I am catching fish.

The worst I had was ice fishing here in northern Illinois 2 years ago. I just got my hut. A buddy of mine went out with me on a Saturday morning. It was 3 degrees with a wind chill of like 15 below. The wind was gusting up to 35 mph that day. We had to go get a sand bag out of his truck to hold the hut down. If one on us got up the hut would move. The best part is that we caught nothing all day. I think that is what made it the worst conditions for me.

My worst day was kinda like KPD’s. We were ice fishing a few years ago and a wind storm kicked up and blew our shanty over before we got there. We got out on the ice, stood the shanty back up and anchored it to the ice. The roof was broke across the top plate from the impact . When we started fishing the roof was starting to lift on it and my buddy was hanging off it to keep it from blowing off. It didn’t take long and we had enough. So I got out of the shanty and my friend followed. No sooner did he shut the door and the wind picked it up and flipped it over again, breaking it all apart. Never again LOL!

worst conditons?  in the morning time you go way down the lake. then the wind gets so heavy and you have these big gaint white castles and you have have to fight your way back to the ramp.

I would say just after a storm with high winds in the summer, hate trying to keep the boat positioned on a main lake point in the high winds.

I agree cold, muddy water is really tough. It’s hard to catch A single fish on days like that.  I can still catch fish when it’s 100degrees(even though its not the funnest),but atleast i can get bit.

Yea, wind is a pain when its 15 mph or over. When im in my bass boat I can tolerate it better then when im fishing from my jon boat. It doesnt take too much wind to mess up boat positioning with jon boats.

To me, the absolute fishing conditions are eiher muddy water, or extreme cold. In muddy water, the bass are very hesitant to bite, and in extreme cold, it is horrible trying to reeland do everything with stiff fingers that are very cold.

I hate it when it is beautiful out and you are on the lake and from behind you a storm pops out of nowhere and drops gallons of water on you (when you forgot your rain gear!!) and lightning is crashing all around!  Now at least every twenty minutes I am looking brehind me to see what’s coming up!

Yea, I hate being stuck in a storm. But the fishing is dynamite as that system moves closer and the atmospheric pressure is dropping. I know I should bail out and head for the ramp....but its too dang hard for me to put down my rod when the bite is on. If a heavy rain starts I usually head back.

When I’m just out having a good time, I have a blast fishing in the rain. As long as it’s not lightning, then my rainsuit is all I need, or if it’s hot, enjoy the water.

As far as worst weather conditions go, probably back when I was a freshman in high school and my dad, little bro, and I got a house boat on Dale Hollow. It was spring break, and perfect timing to hit a good pre-spawn bite...Until we get there and it’s under 30 degrees and snowing haha! Wow it was cold...But in the end I managed to hook into a juiced-up smallie.

And this last year when my dad and I took my roommate up to Michigan City for the winter-run steelhead...It took me around 20minutes to re-tie...My fingers were so cold the just would not work. But again, ended up catching a nice hen, so it all paid off.

I was in a tournament last year with air temps in the upper 20s with rain/sleet/snow.  It sucked.
