After basicaly a 3-5 year lay off Im back. Ive been fishing this year at least 2-3 days a week. I dont really know why I stopped and I didnt completely but Id only fish when I happened to get up with my uncle during that time and that meant maybe 2-3 times a year. Sad I know, but 2 years ago I had a son and it changed my life. I went from a guy that was all about the party. Drinking everyday and using stuff I shouldnt have. To kicking all those bad habits outside of smoking my Marlboro’s. And now my 2 year old is all about this sport. He’s already caught 2 bluegill he could catch more but Im sure alot of you understand the attention span Im dealing with here. He’s getting close to being able to cast his own pole, but honestly I dont know if thats a good thing or not. I can forsee Dad getting a hook in his back very shortly. Ive got a picture I’ll share of his first fish but that will have to wait for a later time. Today, we are at my grandma’s my boy loves his great grandma dearly! But my son is addicted to this sport already I beleive. He has what Ive dubbed a play pole and he’ll run around the house throwing it all day long. He’ll watch fishing shows over sponge bob and other cartoons probably 80% of the time now. Who knows in another 15 years or so I could have the next KVD on my hands. Just hope he shares his boat with Dad.

Now for some bad news. Unfortuantly Ive lost 3 bodies of water since I last fished on a consistant basis. The first one was lost because the owners fell on bad times and was forced to sell. That farm is now full of houses and they dug the pond out to almost a small lake.  A 2nd pond acourding to my grandfather rolled over last year and that pond was awesome. It held several nice fish and at least one hawg we called Spitter. I dont know how big Spitter was but this is no lie, he’d break your line almost every time and then a few minutes later would jump and spit your bait back towards where you was. One buddy hooked him and almost had him. About 5 feet from the bank when he came off. He swears this fish went over 10lbs. He compaired what he saw to the 8lb 14oz fish that hangs in his living room. But the worst is we lost the pond that Ive been fishing since I was at least 4 years old. This pond had alot of bluegill kids loved it. Several 10lb + cats from them feeding them almost dailey. And the bass fishing was no slouch. I have always said I need at least a 6lb fish for my first wall hanger. To some that may sound small but in these parts thats a rare thing. I caught my largest bass to date there. 5lb 15oz, I took a few snap shots gave it the Jimmy Houston treatment and returned the fish to the water. My cousin step daughter later caught a 8lb+ out of there on a bobber and nightcrawler she wouldnt even hold the fish. Due to a slow leak in the dam thats been there for several years the drought last year they decided to do away with the pond and dug the dam out last year. I dont completey blame them it had appearantly turned into a mesquito haven and there was 3 houses all but right on the pond.

So now Im fishing new bodies of water mostly Forestry Lakes, Rivers, and River run off ponds. I plan on having a boat by the end of July. Probably either a jon boat, a pond jumper or whatever you might call them, or a canoe. Worst case I’ll have one by next spring. But Im back fishing as often as possible and glad to have found this site. I look forward to getting to know you guys and Im sure there are a few gals around here as well and hopefully I can make a few new friends.

Acts 10:11-13....He saw the sky open, and something like a large sheet was let down by its four corners. In the sheet were all sorts of animals, reptiles, and birds. Then a voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat them.”

welcome back to the sport!!!  i wouldnt suggest getting a canoe cause there so tippy and not fun to navigate by yourself.. get a small jon boat or a pond jumper and you can add a trolling motor to it anytime when you can afford it maybe even a casting platform depending on what you get..
