I know these two are both very good companies that build trolling motors. Just thoght i’d finally bring the question, “Which is better, Minn Kota or Motorguide. Not talking about prices, just quality, speed, and lowere maintnance.”

No, leave it. The other one was a few months ago. Lots of new members since then.

I have a 65lb Minn Kota thats given me nothing but problems and the repair shops never get the motor right. Had it serviced at least six times last year. But, I also have a 101lb Minn Kota that has been awesome. So, some models from the same manufacturer may work well, some may not.

Both are great and you can’t go wrong with either.  I side with Motorguide simple and easy to use and dependable.  Now with that being said Minnkota has some great features especially on the bowmount foot pedal motors, I like the fact that when you step on the pedal and power button it eases in the full power instead of bam 100% power and it throws you out of the boat that ease makes it easier to stand there and keep your balance.
Both are good and confidence in the product will make the decision for you.

I have a Maxxum 74 that has had the control board go out TWICE in 4 yrs. at $200.00 a pop. Now MK says they have an upgrade kit with there new boards.........we as consumers are field testing for them ,at OUR expense!!

I have always used minn kota and they have never gave me a problem, but for some reason this maxxum has been nothing but problems. Anyways this motor guide I got was on sale, 70# thrust got it for $400 on sale, figured i could not go wrong. guess ill soon find out if I did… LOL...I know im ready to go fishing I have been stuck home all weekend and now we are fixing to get slamed from that hurriccan, the weather man said we will get 10 to 15 inches rain from this storm and I live 300 miles from the ocean lol...but I guess i cant complain since it will fill my slue up maybe i can get some early teal season in this year....someone catch a fish for me!!

Love MinnKota

Have a 101 pound, 36volt Terova, with autopilot.
Very nice.

(Heard good things about MotorGuide too)

The two best times to be fishing is when its rainin’ and when it ain’t.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.  Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Men and fish are alike.  They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

I use minn kota.I’ve had alot of problems out of the foot control on the motor guide. Also where I live you can get minn kota parts easier.Seems like thats the only trolling motor anybody wants to sell.Don’t know if it has to do with the manufactors warranty or what, but I’m very happy with my minn kota.
