OK…it’s winter so let’s have a nightmare !!

Your wife (or partner or whatever) has laid down the law…..you can only own one (and I mean just 1 !!) rod and one reel.  It has to serve you for EVERYTHING.  You can have nothing else to catch fish with.

What is your choice ?  remember…it can’t be “I’d either take this or this”.....it has to be a decision on one rod and one reel, because your woman is on the warpath.

I’ll start…....  St Croix Legend Tournament 7’ 2” MH FAST rod and a Shimano Calcutta TE baitcast reel.

7’ MH Abu Garcia Veritas and Abu Garcia STX in 6.4:1.  I feel that this is the best option because it’s in the middle of a wide range of choices and would be the most flexible in different baits and techniques.  Same goes for the reel speed.

Custom MHX-HM blank 7’ H F with a 7.1 Lews Tourny Pro. I am choosing this one because I spent the most money on it.

7ft med hvy St croix avid with a Revo 6.4:1. I have the length I need to slap her with it and still run fast enough to stay away.

7ft M Quantum Tour Edition PT spinning rod paired with an Okuma Helios HX25 reel.

I opted for spinning set up because I spend a lot of time crappie fishing and the spinning rod gives a little more versatility with the spare spool (almost every spinning reel comes with a spare spool). I can set with 6lb test for crappie and the other with 8-10lb test that I can pretty much do everything bass fishing wise - shakyhead, drop-shot, pitching plastics or jigs, spinnerbaits, etc…

I almost went with spinning also, but i don’t have a really good outfit. i have the reels, but not the rod. I can’t go with the EXO reel and VERITAS rod because i have never fished them yet.

Ugh, it would have to be a 7MH Kistler KLX with a 7.1 Gen3 Revo Premier.

Mine would probably be my 7ft Fenwick Venture M HVY rod with my pflueger Presedential baitcasting reel. I chose this because it is my current frogging setup but I can also flip jigs, and work heavy cranks and spinners quite well with this setup..it Is my most versatile setup of all and I have the most confidence with it..

No wife or partner is going to tell me I can only use one rod. You need another wife or partner. I think you are going stir crazy. We start fishing this week at Lake Seminole.

Yep…stir crazy is right.  But I’m solving that in 2 weeks with a full week in Scottsdale on several of my favorite golf courses….followed by 4 more days of sitting in the sun watching spring training.  I may be nuts now, but shortly I’ll recover…oh and I’ll recover very nicely I might add.

Good for you. I love Arizona but prefer Alabama because of all the rivers and lakes. Have a great trip.
