I was looking around BPS for a cheap real for my new kvd rod. Need a smooth real for playing with soft jerkbaits and such in weeds. Saw this real, its supposed to be new this year.

I’ve used budget BPS reels before and they are pretty decent but I have been happier with quantum ac500 reels than the BPS reels.  There are several stores on ebay selling new ac500’s for not much more than the BPS reel.  These stores are supposed to be authorized dealers.

or you can order an ac500pt and get the rebate and have the option of getting the burner gear ratio

Trust me, if i had the chance to get an accurist pt with burner, i would buy it in less than a minute. But I’m in High School and got fired from my job. That’s why i said i wanted a cheap one with good reliabilitiy. I cant afford to spend $100 on something that i know i will scratch then be pissed at my self for weeks. I like the 10 bb on the bps real, and the 6:3:1 is good enough for me.

Good news BBK - You can get a burner for a “decent” price at BPS!!  I recommend spending a few more coins and checking out this link…

http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId;=-1&partNumber=98401&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults

That 7.0.1 burner kicks some SERIOUS tail!!  This is, by far, my most favorite reel I own.  My first baitcaster was an BPS Extreme.  I still use if from time to time, but to be able to pick up a 10 ball-bearing burning that cheap is FRIGGIN’ AMAZING!!

I didn’t miss that part…just merely suggesting holding out for something better.  I might also suggest getting the cover for your reels, that protects them from getting banged up, too.

Sorry i snapped. It’s just that i want to get one of those sooo bad, but i also need to get a reel soon as i mannaged to nock my jerkbait rod right off the boat last fall. So i kind of need to get a reel on it so i can use it. I guess i could hold out and use my walleye jigging rod but thats just not the same.

I have a snap stringer for that. If its not to much to get hung on, carry one of those stringers and if you drop a rod open the snaps and bend them out some and go fishing for your rod with that tied to a rope. With luck you can get your rod back.

If your live near a BPS go check it out if your that indecisive about it. Otherwise weigh your options need vs want.  Your not the only one whos waiting on the ability to get a better rod and reel. So don’t feel alone! I would seriously check ebay and places like that people upgrade all the time and sell their old reels. Yes its not new, but one mans trash is another mans treasure.

In reading further into my April Bass Master magazine, there is a nice article entitled, “REEL CHEAP! The Best on a Budget” (page 44).  Here is their top 3 choices for baitcasters….Abu Garcia Ambassedeur C3 - $79.99, Shimano Callisto - $39.95, Bass Pro Shops Extreme - $79.99.  The Shimano is more of what you had mentioned for price range, but there are a couple other options.  I have an Extreme combo and would recommend it, however, I’d still tell you that if you scraped up enough to by an $80 reel, may as well wait until you can get the one you’d really like for $100.  Sell a kidney, lung, bone marrow, sperm, ya know, whatever it takes to get some of that extra coin. *L*

Diawa has done a good job of improving their products for 08, I picked up a Procyron spinning rod to get me by and have been impressed with the quality (I almost didn’t order an energy pt rod to replace it).  For the budget your working with I would probably go with the Diawa over the BPS reel especially since you can get the faster gear ratio.

Well, my Walmart has reels on the shelf and some in a glass case. The ones in the glass case come with a warrenty and everthing. I trust those, but i would never buy one from the wall.
