Id just like to say that we have had some WEIRD weather here in Iowa! Last night we got over 3” of rain. The miss river is going to flood 3 feet over flood stage here, the ceder river is going to crest at 3ft over RECORD stage. The Iowa river is way over flood stage also. The reservoirs here have spilled over the dams and are breaking the levies and flooding iowa city. There’s only one way into and out of iowa city now. I wont be fishing for probably over a month now.
I dont know exactly where you live in Iowa, assuming Ia City or close to it, but here in the SE corner its getting pretty messy…i think they said the mississippi is going to crest around 25 ft….thats 10 feet above flood stage. They had to cancel Steamboat Days for the first time in the history of it.
Yeah I live in Columbus, IN we’ve had some pretty bad flooding here it’s been nothing but clean up this whole past week, but thankfully there havebeen few deaths. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
I feel for ya all, i was near St Louis in 93 when the rains in north just kept coming, but just as people are, i will pray 4 ya all just as ya all sent prayers this way. This is a time when citys and towns find out what people are made of when neighbors help neioghbors and strangers become friends.
Im in burlington, about 1 hr. 45 min south of you BBK….went fishing this morning at about 7 am main st. by the river was dry…came back at noon and about a 3 block area was gated off cause of the river. Its already 2 streets over from the miss. The BNSF railyard is underwater now too. I think this one might beat the flood of ‘93.
I feel for the people in Cedar Rapids. I know the water has receded quite a bit there, but 7 ft of water in the downtown area? Wow. And i know this is off the topic, but Lake Delton in Wisconsin, how about that? The damn broke and the lake is no more. Major Midwestern tourist spot(Wisconsin Dells). I truck driver told me friday at work that they have closed down resorts on the all the waterski and duck rides are done. Unreal. Hey Ranger, this is really going to affect the tournement there in a couple of weeks. My prayers go out.
They cancelled the tournament here…they moved it to old hickory lake in tenn. Ive got a few friends in CR and they are telling me its just an abosolute mess…the flood took out a train bridge that they had a train parked on to add stability to it….didnt work at all…its sad that they didnt get enough warning either. I heard from a few people that they were not told that it was gonna rise like that and I think alot of people could have got more stuff out of their homes before it came up. One of my buddies up there said he couldnt even get flood insurance because he lived outside of some flood plain…well….his house is destroyed, so that really sucks for him and everyone in that same situation.
The bad thing is, all the rivers and lakes are going to keep rising, we are having rain up hear almost every day. Last night we got another 2”. All that water has to come down to you ranger. This is the one time I’m glad i live on a hill.
Oh and on Thursday, the smallmouth creek i fish was 30 ft deep. Its normally 3 ft. That’s how much rain we had. All the ran from the farms and the city goes down that creek.
I live just up the hill from the river too…good thing. Ive already had my basement flooded 2 times in the last month cause of the rains we got and the citys poor sewer system. They say its my fault though the the sewer ran up and into my basement through a drain. Yep…i did that on purpose, cause i thought it would be fun to pump 300 gallons of water out of my basement along with all the stuff off the trees and various other bad smelling things that are in the sewers.
Nah…not yet…im pretty sure the weather guys said there will be a new record set here in burlington…cresting higher than the massive flood of ‘93…Great…now it will be even longer before i can fish the river.
It crested up here. I heard it should crest down there by tonight and it should break your record. The news around here is just constant “flood 2008 coverage” as they call it. I might head over to the rock Corry in a little to see if its low enough that i could pull a bass or two out. River is just not an option now and wont be for atleast a few weeks. Sounds like my next time in the boat will be in MN on vacation.
Im planning on heading to Lake Seguma tomorrow and probably down the Missouri on sat. or sun. I know both places will have good water levels. Last sat. when i was in missouri, the town that i had left had a tornado go through 20 prior to me being there. Good thing we pulled the boat out when we did!! I think in about 3 weeks if we can keep the rain away im going to head down to where the elite was going to be held. I know some really good places in that area.
