Its just a 14’ jon boat, but hey I GOT A BOAT! This baby is going to need some TLC, and I got a trailor with it. I acquired it off a friend of mine that Ive known for about 10 years nows reason I mention this Im going to have to go through the hassel of loss titles to get it all legit. But he’s already got everything line out we just have to get it done and he said if there is any troubles on the way we’d swap back.
The things I know I will need to do is add at least 1 seat, might redo the one he did I think Id like it better if it sat higher than it does. I’ll have to get a aireatior for the livewell, I’d like to carpet the boat but thats down on the list, the trailor needs rewired and I’ll need to get a ball hitch for my truck and make sure it has the plug to run the lights to the trailor. All in all on my budget Im guess I’ll probably miss this summer, but should be able to do some fall fishing and will be ready to roll come next spring.
One other question though the boat sure would look nice with a nice fresh coat of paint. Looks like someone tried but did a horrible job. Is there a special paint if I choose to do this?
well done!!!! its nice to graduate to a boat after you have been fishing from shore all the time.. we have a 16ft deep v aluminum boat and it does us fine.. its not a 50,000 triton but it will still put you on fish… good luck getting her ready for next year
Congrats on your boat, i wouldnt consider it “Just a 14’ jon boat” a boat is a boat and when ya have been fishing from a bank a 14’ jon boat is a nitro,

I remember saying the same exact words about a month ago on here and getting chewed out for it. Glad to see someone feels the same as me.
A boat is a boat as long as it floats.
You know its funny how quick you mind thinks and then re-consider’s ideas. All the freakin ideas Ive had for the boat are unreal but Im on a budget so alot of things come into play. I was planning on building a couple decks not so much to fish off of more for out of sight storage. But then once I think about it it having a deck behind your seat could cost you a few fish untill you learn to dance up on the deck if the fish leads you to the other side of the boat. Was also thinking about painting the boat to match my truck but then Im thinking what if I start trapping and stuff this winter alot of other activites Ive always wanted to do that becomes more favorable with the addition of the boat. So bright red or a dull green or brown comes into play. I did manage to take some before pictures today so once I feel this boat is complete I’ll do the before and after shots here. Now there is a diffrence between complete and water ready....so you’ll have to be paitent if you want to see how my twisted mind works.
Hey congrats on the boat just take it easy take a deep breath and have fun redoing the old girl. Also have fun fishing from her I’m sure you’ll catch your fair share of scaley friends.
Welcome to the 14’ Jon Boat club! I have loved my jon boat and wouldn’t trade it for the world (unless someone wanted to trade for a new Nitro or something). I’ve had a lot of “firsts” in that boat (fishing related mind you ). Hope you find that paint. Almost wonder if it’s not the clear coat vs. the paint that makes the finish. Best of luck! Post some photos along the way.
congrats on the boat!! you will surely enjoy it. And for less money than you think, you will have it set up the way you want and fish comfortably. Keep us posted on it.

First clean the aluminum surface to remove all dirt, old paint and oxide from the surface. Apply a coat of acid etch primer following the mixing and application instructions to the letter. Within 24 hours of applying the etch primer, apply the topcoat finish. This will be an automotive grade or marine grade polyurethane coating. Use a good quality product to protect all the prep time and elbow grease you invested prior to the topcoat application. Good luck and enjoy your boat!
Congrats on the new boat. Ive, been fishing out of a 14’ 60’s Lund. Of course me and a buddy fully decked it like a bass boat, but it beats standing on the edge of the water any day. Maybe if I can save a few $$$ I’ve got my eyes on some late 90’s Bass Cats and Rangers...we will see how that goes.
Allen...Blackhawks?....Ive been in a few of those before, had some fun days in those...and some not so fun..LOL

Yeah Blackhawks. I imagine some weren’t fun, I know everyone we take out on air assaults doesn’t look like they are having much fun. But they are sure glad to see us when we’re picking them up!
Yeah...of course the ride home is always nice, I always tried to have fun...that’s why I picked the MOS I did!!!! I’m just not all there, but that’s why it’s fun.
Had my fun with the blackhawks too jumping and repelling. 101st airassualt(airborne) best days of my life but not for my wife. Its where I learned to fish for bass. Allen thanks for everything and all the sacrifices you have made and hope you get that Trx-20 you deserve it man.
