Ok guys, I have a question for you all. Im leaving for vacation this comming Sat. Everyone does real good on topwater frogs on the lake we go to. My question is what would be the best frog to use in open water with a little bit of coontail around the banks. Everyone seems to be using one that’s like a rubber body, with paddle feet. It also needs to be a cheep lure, The lake is FULL of big northerns that love frogs. We have caught them up to 10lbs on buzbaits and spinnerbaits. Also needs to be a well known lure that i could pick up at cabelas on the way up there.

Thanks for the help,
BBK

I found this, this looks like what the locals use.
Anyone ever try these?

I’ll be honest with you, you will do best with what you feel most comfortable with.
As for good frogs, I have recently been using the Strike King Rage Tail series ofr baits and they work exceptionaly well.
The commotion they have on the top is hard to compare to.

I have been using the Rage Tail Shad but, they also offer a toad.

Yeah for a soft bodied toad I would go with the Strikeking rage tail toad or a rage tail shad use a big 5/0 EWG hook and don’t be afraid to throw them on braid to help out with those pike.  For a hollow bodied toad go with the River2Sea Bullywa frog Cabelas sells them walks the dog great in open water and skates accross the tops of matted weeds with ease.  Cabelas sells them both.

Acts 10:11-13....He saw the sky open, and something like a large sheet was let down by its four corners. In the sheet were all sorts of animals, reptiles, and birds. Then a voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat them.”

Snag Proof makes some really good hollow frogs as well as spro. I use them both with great success and have fed some pike with them to until I switched to heavy braid LOL! Now I have to unhook them stinky pike but at least I get my bait back.

Thanks for the help guys, but it was a bust. there was no pads, no milfoil, and no coontail at all. The harsh winter they had pro longed the vegitation growth. Did real well on redeye shads and spinnerbaits though. But when we got there we found out that the walleye bite was still on so we spent almost all week fishing for walleyes. Caught a few 4-6lb walleyes and some that were smaller and cooked them up.
