what kind of scale do you use to weigh your bass or any fish??? i have a peice of junk zebco scale and im pretty sure it is giving me unaccurate weights…
If i had the money i would have an X-Tools 4 sure, but im still happy with the Rapala Digital i have. I know its not 100% accurate as far as weight goes per fish, but will still always show the bigger fish, and at end of day my recorded total weight is really close to weigh in scales. X-Tools i think is around 100 bucks with cull kit, Rapala is approx 35 bucks at Wal-mart
My buddy has the Xtools scale. It is really nice. I have berkely digital. I should compare them and see how close they are to weights. I don’t have the 100$ for a scale either, I opted for the mis priced 15$ one.....supposed to be 40$ LOL....I will report back on the scale thing.

I use the Berkley digital as well. As long as your scale can differentiate the weights enough for culling your good to go for tournament purposes.
I also use the Berkley digital scale, I’m on my second one. They aren’t very accurate but they work to help distinguish the smaller fish but if not I also carry a balance beam. If I had the money I would get the Cullem system or the X tools. The new bouy system from Ardent looks pretty cool the floats have a way to dial in the weight of the fish for easier culling after you weigh the fish.
I use a boater grip thingy. It gripps the mouth and has a built in scale. I only use it on the big fish. Dont need it in tourneys because theres no culling in Iowa.
I use the X-Tools scale w/ the culling system and I’ve been pretty happy with it. On occasions though, like any other digital unit, the weights can be a tad off. Usually happens when I’m weighing a fish and it shakes all over the place during the weigh process. I bet any scale would do that though. I had to modify the culling tags too. The “Clip style” that come with it fall off if the fish get active int the livewell. I went to a going out of business sale and got a stainless stringer. I took the clips off the stringer and put them on my cull numers and now because they lock, the fish can’t get off of the numbers.
Ardent makes a cool culling system. It’s not on their site yet, last time i checked. They showcased it at I-Cast and it was a hit.
There is also a new bag system called glory bags each bag is a different color and each bag holds one fish. The bags are a mesh material and you can keep your fish in them in the livewell so the fish are more relaxed and easier to handle. Their site is glorybag.com and their phone # is 540-205-9239.
i have a cull tag set that is same clips used on stringers, on occasion they come unhooked to, but i learned something, i had 2 come undone in 1 tournament, they was hooked in bottom lip, if you hook them in top lip that almost never happens. Its the same as a lure, a top lipped hooked fish cant throw a bait as easy as a bottom lip hooked fish.

What do you mean there is no culling in Iowa? What rule is that....you always cull in a tournament.

Taken directly from the iowa dnr homepage.
It is prohibited to sort, cull, high-grade or replace any fish already in possession. Participants in permitted black bass tournaments are exempted. Any fish taken into possession by holding in a live well, on a stringer, or in other fish holding devices is part of the daily bag limit. Once the daily bag limit of a particular species is reached, fishing for that species is permitted as long as all fish of that species caught are immediately released.
The rule is to protect from spreading deseases. You could have had a contaminated bass in your livewell, catch another one and put it in the livewell. That fish would get sick then you would release it sick. Its just a way of keeping the bass pop up. I dont really support it as most of the bass you catch here are 12-13” with 14” being the min size limit.
