hey everybody,

im fairly new to fishing and just want to ask a few questions.  For starters, i fish on a reservoir that many people say is overfished and is not the best area to fish.  I fish there cause its close and gives me the opportunity to try new fishing techiques or whatever.  i have seen many fish in the water from trout, panfish, and bass. People around me catch them every so often, but im not having any luck.  They are on little float tubes to boats.  Im fishing on shore as of right now. (working on gettin a fishing kayak) I use plastic worms(drop shot), strike king spinnerbaits, stike king buzzbaits, and sometimes topwater. i primarly go after bass.

Any advice on what bait/lures to use.

Also any other advice will be greatly appreciated.  i just want to better my chances.

Thanks again

i would try a weighless Senko type bait, weighless trick worm or small split shotted centipede, something finesse, and slow falling.

I agree with the Senko....or....try something simple that ALL fish will hit.  Try a 1/4 oz leadhead jig with a twister tail (3-4"). Then cast, let it fall a couple seconds, and retrieve.
Simple yet effective.

I like the senko suggestion and I would throw in a small finesse worm 4” and a small jighead 1/8 oz or 3/16 oz in natural colors greens, browns and blacks.  Next look real hard at the area you are fishing.  Find a point and fish that on both sides and down the middle most points will offer some deep water on one side or both and flat shallow flat on top.

Well where i fish is a cove with a shallow beachhead at the end.  i fish almost towards the beach head where there are several trees and branches that fell into the water. Many people catch some smallies i think there.  Also couple weeks b4 i saw around 15 trout just in that area and went back the next week and then they were all gone.

Fished for the trout with corn (yellow) and nymph (purple) powerbait with a size 12 treble hook. but no luck.

If i was you i would throw a 1/8 oz roostertail inline spinner. Trout and bass both love them.

bought 2 small 3/8 and 1/2 oz strike king pro model jig.(rattlin brown and blue/black) a rocket shad(white/silver), a rebel topwater (bass color), a renegade mini shad diver(baby bass color) and some trailer hooks.  hope these work for me this weekend!! give them a shot.

also i would take another rod with you and rig that up with a little pinky or a fly and then put a bobber 3-4 ft above and just let it sit out there.  fish some lures with your other rod and keep a close eye on your bobber. i do that every so often and i dont do to bad.

so i was just looking at a website and they said that jigs with lil rattles on them are pointless. is that true?

also should i buy the same color trailer as the jig?

Im guessing your fishing clear water, so yes you need to match the trailer to the jig. Try to use natural colors,.

i think rattles are good and serve a purpose, 1st it will entice and advertise from farther away, also....baitfish make noise as well, crayfish click and shells make noise on rocks, so i would think rattles would always be a plus.
