Ive never seen the spotts or smuges on the fish here, but from what I hear, birds doodie, and fish, or craw eat the doodie, and Bass or other fish eat those fish that ate the doodie, and the birds eat them again, reproducing!
I’ve heard it’s largemouth bass virus. michigan DNR had a posting about it last year. If I find the literature agin I will share it
LMBV is more like sores.
That’s good to know! I saw that last year somewhere. I was looking for it here. It may have been at a dnr site -not sure.
Yea, if you see ulcerated sore-like places on a fish it either means a poor immune response or a stressed fish. LMBV was an issue a few years back on the Mississippi. Not sure how far up river it affected the bass populations. I know we was asked to look for it along the Ohio River and some local lakes. Never seen anything significant around here though.
i’m pretty sure what i’m talking about isn’t lmbv. this article talks about fish not being able to swim upright due to loss of bladder control….these fish i catch every once in a while are pretty healthy.
