It’s been pretty hot on the lakes lately. The dog days are here, pretty soon it will be a hit or miss in July and Aug. The fishing has been good but not the way it was, the bass schools are out in force and the groups of hogs are getting harder to find. I love this time of year for smallies but the Lm’s are working their lazy pattern of looking at the bait untill you make him mad. Fast and furious the fishing will be.

The heat!!! It has been very cool Right! The weather is been nuts for the last 2 weeks I know alot of you do live where I do but still. If you don’t have fish by 9a you are in trouble.  This is where I should buy stock in gatorade.

I has alot of sugar in it… It’s better to just drink water guys. Not as great as everyone thinks, especially for fishing. For aerobic activity, like contact sports, running, cycling, yeah its great, but not standing on the trolling motor and chuck’n baits all day. (this is the health care professional coming out in me, hahaha).

oh yea water is way better for you than gatorade for standing on the trolling motor and whipping baits. Gator-ade rain has more water in it though… i think that is why they call it rain. gator ade rain lime is the best

Oh yeah, nothing beats the “O.G.” lime and orange Gatorade! But, everyone here can attest how beat they are after a tournament day of fishing! Some times you grab whatever is handy before you hit the launch in the morning.

I love gatorade. I will dehydrate without it.

If fish aren’t on the docks, summer is spelled FRUSTRATION for me.  I feel really confident working in, around, and under docks, pontoons, and other shoreline structure—and that often produces fish—but, if that game-plan fails, I’m left cringing at the idea of working deep water.

Here’s the deal:  when I’ve practiced out deep (10-20 feet), I’ve caught almost nothing on anything but crankbaits (even those are pretty unproductive for me during the “dog days”).  The slow, plastic stuff (jigs, etc.) is constantly bogged down in vegetation—weedless or not.

My confidence level is zero.  Apparently, I need tutoring…

yea i fell the same way but i fish a river more than a lake so i find current the pitch into current breaks whether that be stumps rocks or for me the big ticket… where i have been catching all of my hawgs are at   lilly pads with current or grass. I have been having luck in deep water grass with cranks also but i am really catching them with drop shot.

I’m across country runner and my coach and trainer tell me before or during strenuous activity always drink water lots of water(this time of year a gallon a day if your outside), but afterwards in the shade and cooled down a gatorade or two can help repleish you.  But never drink soda if you feel overheated, the sugar will make it worse .

I would rather fish a lake in summer than any other time(except ice fishing). The cline is set up, food chain is is full swing, they are literally done! Match the hatch, and use the weather to your advantage. You can practically catch them all day. Its also the same through the ice but you have the edge cuz the food chain has decreased and they need to eat.

If I had to pick a fav. time of year to fish it would either be spring or fall.  Spring becuase all they want to do is eat and make babies so fishing is easy and they hit most anything.  Fall because they are eating to put on weight and they will hit a lot plus they are schooled up and when you find them you can load the boat in no time.
