depends on where and who Im fishing with, on my boat with someone fishing out of the back I take 6-8, they normaly can take close to the same. But if I know the place and know exactly what I’ll be throwing all day its not uncommon to take just 2-3. Granted I may have another 5+ in the back of the Durango just in case.

I have 9 baitcasters and 4 spinning of various lengths and weights.  They’re mostly technique specific.  So even though most of them end up in the boat when I go, it really depends on what I plan on doing that day.  Sometimes I will leave a few of them at home.  That way, whoever may be going fishing with me that day can put some of their rods in the box.

But you can never have enough.  Just when you think you have everything you need, you read an article or watch a program that shows you a technique that you haven’t used yet and you think to yourself, “Yeah, I can do that”.  Next thing you know, your trying to explain to your wife just why it is that you HAVE to have another rod and reel.

Kudos to whoever dug up this ancient post!

Now it depends for me on where I am fishing. If its summer time with heavy vegetation, its usually 5 Bait Casters and no Spinning, but if I’m fishing in clear water I go with lighter line and bring 4 spinning and one bait caster. That’s once I narrow down a pattern, but before that I have like 10 to 15 rods spinning and casters.

I don’t own a boat yet, but when I fish club tournaments as a non-boater, I bring 4.  3 bait casters and a spinning.
