We have a late season goose season until Jan 10. I would rather be ice fishing in my warm shanty than laying in the snow trying to shoot a goose that tastes like crap.

Here in Michigan the ice is getting thicker by the day. I fished a small lake today. I caught some gills, four bass, the biggest was 16”, and a solid 13” crappie. This is the start of my fourth season of ice fishing, so I don’t have a ton of experience fishing hard water. The question I have about ice fishing is, are fish effected by day to day weather patterns? Obviously fish are effected by seasonal changes in water temperature, but are they isolated from changing weather patterns? How much do changes in barometric pressure, cold fronts warm fronts, or moon phases effect fishing in the winter time?

Hope you catch your biggest bass ever on your next fishing trip.

Absolutely, the fish will act the same during the winter as in the summer.

I have my best luck before storms and during storms.

Heres a perfect example; Last year a buddy of mine and I were fishing almost every day. We fished mon, tues, weds, and thurs without catching more then 1 or 2 fish a day. We went friday and it snowed 2-3” wile we were out there. We kept 30 some gills over 7.5” and 5 or 6 crappie over 11”. Then on sat when the snow stopped, we were back to catching 1 or 2 a day. We fished the same area with the same lures and the same bait each day.

We are supposed to have a cold spell tomorrow (high in the teens), hopefully I can find some safe ice to get on!

BBK, Should have safe ice in most spots now. By this time next week, every place should be A-OK. Nice crappie bassfish. Hopefully I can see some of them this weekend. Keep them pics coming!

rivers rising kpd….. so on the edges of the ice where you get on, its hard to find a good spot….... unless you take a 10ft 2x8 board along with you

I’m trying my honey hole this afternoon, I heard there was 4” before the 4” of rain we had. Hopefully I can get on.

Decided not to go, too cold to fish without a shelter.

I know BBK, it is really cold up here too. After the sun went down the thermometer read 19 degrees. I only fished for a couple hours, and called it a day. My holes were continually freezing up, and so were the guides on my rod. I only caught gills, and nothing big. It was a lack luster fishing trip.
