i agree the newer rods and reels help, but i have a lot of older rods, so i use Stealth

I think one thing that helped with it not cutting into the spool was that when I went to make the next cast after I caught a fish or had one on, I would always try to make an easier cast and try not to overpower it.

That’s the key, easier smoother cast after a fish or a snag or something where the line was pulled real tight on the reel. I know because i would make a hard cast after having the line pulled tight and i would snap off baits one after the other. it was my first year using baitcasters and braid so expensive lesson but learned well.
