Going to the Classic and being around all the fishing has caused me to about lose it. So, KyAngler and myself are taking a fishing trip March 5-7 to a little place in Illinois called Newton Lake. Im sure a lot of you guys have heard us talking about it the past year or so. But, if you havent, its a power plant lake and its loaded with big bass.
So, I’m throwing this out there to let anyone interested in joining us know that we will be heading that way.

Do you have a kicker motor or do you fish in a smaller boat?

I dont have a kicker on the Triton. I do have a 16ft jon boat but last time I was at Newton the wind was howling so Im sticking with the more stable boat. Too bad they dont allow idle speeds for motors over 25hp.

That’s the same reason I shy away from those hp restricted lakes. I would hate to get out and have the batteries die half way down the lake. I heard some good things about newton.

Tape a piece of cardboard over your motor that says “25hp”. All you need is a couple 20’s in your pocket and your good to go.

I wish I could do that. Newton is a decent sized lake. As long as the wind isnt so tough this trip I’ll be okay. Ill only be fishing the warm arm (800 acres).

You will get busted. I have almost never been there without 1 conservation in the parking lot, and have seen as many as 5 if their was a tournament

Thats what the 20’s are for, to pay off the fuzz.

Its a pretty good sized lake for a trolling motor. You may want to carry a spare battery just in case. Last year I drained mine and barely crawled back to the ramp.
You’ll need an Illinois fishing license and a camera smile
Lake is full of shad and everybody told us to use white. I got all my bass on a black lizard or a black jig…lol. So bring a mixed bag of tackle.

I know what you mean. All I have to fish at the moment is the Ohio. So I havent even bothered with getting the boat out.
Ill be good to go early next Friday when its time to hook up and haul out. Who are you fishing with?

Well i’m not really sure. I’ve talked to a few of my buddies and they have to work, I imagine if my brother doesnt have to work he’ll want to go but i havnt got ahold of him yet. We’ll see, it may end up just being me.
