Hi my name is Eddy ( pronounced Eddie ) I usually fish the local ponds and canal around Central Jersey. I like going after Channel Catfish cause they hit hard and sometimes put up a nice fight. The only problem I got is trying to keep the chicken livers from falling of the hook when I cast. Any of our fish seem not to bite during the winter months compared to the action during springtime and before the ponds get over ridden with the sea grass and weeds during the summer. Any tips are more than welcome and your more than welcome to PM me so it don’t clog up the board. To whoever reads this I hope your next fishing day is a banner day.

Hi Eddie, Welcome to the KVD Forums. Nice pic of your catfish. Actually Eddie I have notice a few fishermen around here that tie a big treble hook to there line. Kind of like a drop shot rig, but with a 2 to 3 ounce sinker, with a treble hook and put chicken livers in panty hose, while stabing a few holes into it and wraping it around the treble hook. Hope this helps

Hi eddy and welcome to kvd forums! I’m from philly and during the summer nights i fish the schuykill river. To solve your problem with the liver falling off. Get some thin panty hose (you may get some weird looks at the store) but put your chicken liver in the panty hose and tie it. Put your circle hook threw and boom, you can cast it as hard as you can and it won’t fall off. But if you want some real fast fun you can’t beat live or dead sunfish. Go to your local pond and catch a few 3.to 4 inch sunnies, go to the canal, hook them right behind the dorsal and cast one out. The flathead and channel where I live love those things. I catch a lot like that. Hope that helps and good luck.

Thanks for the warm welcome peeps and Chicken Liver tips. I have one or two AMUZING stories as I am quite sure everyone else here has. Right now the score is Eddy 3 Channel Catfish 1 That means that four channel cats tried stealing my poles and if it wersen’t for quick reflexes I would have lost 4 poles but instead I only lost one. I had one pole in the water and werse baiting the other one when I heard my little folding chair which supported the live pole get knocked over. I looked just in time to see my live pole 3 foot in the air and making a beautiful dive into the water. No sense diving into the water after a 20 dollar walmart open reel pole since I couldn’t see below the surface in that area I didn’t want to get impaled because I know they have some support posts underwater in that area of the canal. The best I could theorize is the cat werse happily swimming off somewhere to the Atlantic Ocean with my chicken liver and pole

I wish I had some skills at catching these underwater hiders and swimmers. You won’t here me talk about the days I don’t catch any. I am quite sure there are a lot more peeps on here that have a lot more skill than I do at fishing. I would cornsider myself a novice. Sure it helps if you have the knowledge,  but to me there is also luck in fishing. like when you cast your lure under a tree and say theres got to be a bass there and bam soon as your lure or bait hits the water you got him. I wish it worked that way all the time. Better yet I wish I had me a small boat instead of fishing from shore most of the time

Welcome to the site.

Another thing you can try (besides pantyhose) is spawn sac netting:

Just wrap the livers in the netting; tie off; insert hook and fish.

Eddy if you want some constant action you must make a trip to the schyuikill river, I’m telling you, this river is infested with big cats. I go down almost every summer weekend at night with my 8 foot surf rod, 50lb braid and a lawn chair. When you catch one, it turns on fire from there on out, I end up leaving because I run out of bait!

Sounds like I’m gonna have to take a ride down to the schyuikill river. They must be bigguns if you have to use a surf rod and 50 pound test Hawg. What part of Pennsy do you git to it??? It makes the seven pounder channel cat I caught look like a guppy I reckon
