i have a pfluger president and i like it for flipping and pitching, but when i cast it, it almost always backlashes. i have 20 lb BPS flurocarbon spooled on and i cant figure out why it is doing this. even when i turn the centrifical brake on the whole way it still does it. it stops if i turn the brake on the whole way, but i can only cast like 10 yds. Help plz

Are you thumbing the spool to slow it down and stopping it with your thumb as the lure hits the water? I cant tell you how many times I’ve seen people pick up a baitcaster and whip it like its a zebco 33. Gotta stop it with your thumb.

Try thumbing it while casting to slow the spool down to your liking. Backlash happens when the spool is spinning faster then the line is going through the guides.

Are your magnetic brakes set?  Take the side plate off and look at the pins,  I like to do 50/50 every other brake on.  Hope this helps.

im not arguing or anything or trying to sound like i know everything and im perfect, but im doing that and i dont think im doing anything to make that happen.  do you think that maybe the line could have something to do with it. this is the first time ive used something over 15lb test and its the first time its happend. also its the first time i swayed away from the quantums as well…

Just trouble shooting here but have you cleaned and lubed the gears and worm shaft?  I really don’t think its the line.  I use 17-20 lb flouro on all my flipping/pitching rods and also my spinnerbaits and have no problems other than operator failure from time to time.  I think I would start with the trouble shooting and cleaning and go from there.

you didnt happen to oil the spool shaft did you? if you did you might want to take it apart and remove the oil on it.

That’s strange, I’ve used presidents and they’ve been great…I would most definately try to get it swapped out. If it helps any, pfleuger has awesome customer service if u send urs out you should get it back the next week. I remember when I first used one, to be honest the president was the reel that got me turned on to pfleuger baitcasters, it was such a great reel.
