I’d like to hear opinions on both. My old evinrude has given me my last problem and its time to get a new one. Just from reading and looking, i’m leaning towards motorguide pro series. I can get a 70lb thrust for under 600 not shipped, which is cheaper than the minn kotas im looking at.. but i’m still open for minn kota if someone can give me a good argument.

I have a 70 minn kota maxxum 24v and love it. It holds the boat great in the current and then some. I can usually get 3 to 4 days of fishing before the batteries need charged.

i have a 70lb thrust minnkota edge and i love it.  it is super durable. ive run it into rocks and submerged trees a few times (ooops) and it works great.  ive even have had gotten fishing line stuck around it and it didnt effect it.  i pulled it up, turned it off, and cut it out.  put it back in and it started right back up. i fish rivers almost exclusively and the 70 easily pulls me up against swift current.

The reviews on basspro have really scared me away from motorguide pro series. From the way it sounds, motorguide makes some great trolling motors, just not in the price range i’m looking for. So now i’m torn between MinnKota’s Edge and maxxum.. both have what i want and seem to be trusted by alot of people. The edge is a little bit cheaper, but i think it would still be a great trolling motor. Thanks for the input guys, I’ve all but decided on the edge 70

I cant really compaire the 2 because all Ive ever used is my MotorGuide and its just the basic foot controlled unit. It works well for me will probably look for a upgrade in the next few years only because I want something in the 60-100 thrust range.

I have had MinnKota’s on all my boats. Only 1 issue, and I caused it (rock !).
When I was at the shop getting it fixed, I asked the repair guy which one’s he thought were in for repair more.
He said “I am certified to fix both brands.  Minnkota has 70 percent of the market, meaning there are many more MinnKota’s out there than Motor Guides. 75-80% of my repairs are for MOTORGUIDES !”.
That is hard to argue with.
