Kevin VanDam has 3 rods with his name on them. the Kevin Vandam signature series sold at BPS, the KVD tour, and the KVD tour elite.
My question is, does he still use his signature series, or tour series? Or is he all tour elites? I ask because It seems every other pro just upgrades the same line of rods instead of creating a whole new line.
His Tour rods are all E-glass and the Elite Sig. Series are the custom rods he has made for him personally. That whole line of rods are custom made for each pro. Makes them a unique and really tweeked rod for their purpose.
His signature line of rods are made by Quantum but sold exclusively at BPS and are the cheapest. The KVD Tour and Tour Elites are are Quantum’s lines and sold at most retail outlets big enough to afford and sell the line. It is marketing but on 3 levels 2 by his sponsors BPS and Quantum and the 3rd by him putting his signature on the rods. Also he is targeting all price ranges the low end with the rods at BPS, mid range with the KVD Tour and high end the KVD Tour Elites. Its a business and all 3 parties are looking to cash in on the biggest name in bassfishing right now.
Like I have always said before…just about the marketing and the money. The high end Custom Shop rods are only available off Quantum and Tackle Warehouse that I have seen. All prices for those are 200$...cant find them any where…or even on ebay for that matter. I have 6 of those coming this week!!!!!
Ill post some pics when I get them…sorry…no KVD rods though.
That is why I believe IKE left Daiwa…just couldnt get into the market as he wanted. And Im sure Abu is jumping at the chance to get him using their stuff.
But on the high end, it isn’t just Vandam, Quantum has Tour series with Greg Hackney, Gary Klien, Gerald Swindle, Shaw Grigsby, Dean Rojas, and even Tommy Biffle. All of which retail more than a KVD.
I agree about Ike. Honestly I think Quantum is the best about working with pros and getting them what they really want at least on the rod side of things. Can;t say the same for the reels.

Honestly, i think thats because theres less demand. And you would think, oh well demand means less cost. Well not when you have loyal fans to those anglers who are willing to pay for their rods. And if you think about it, if someone is a loyal fan to one of those anglers, he’s probably very serious about bass fishing, where as kvd has a much wider fan base- so wider price range. Like was said, its marketing.

I agree, I can’t tell you how much I would like a Tommy Biffle rod.
I think quantum is more trying to get guys winning on their prostaff, and if you give the guys what they want, it helps them fish better, and if the Tourneys are won by Quantum rods, well they start selling.
The coolest thing about their rods, each angler’s rod is made for there signature technique.. The KVD is spinnerbait/crankbait, Biffle is texas rigs, Rojas is frogs, Hackney is jigs etc.
Biffle is more for pitching, I have the older 6’ 10” sig series. I took it out for the first time today and while I didnt hook up it has a very nice feel to it. If I was a rich man I think Id buy 5-10 more of these 6’ 10” H Biff series and do away with almost every other rod I own.
