Went fishing the other day with a buddy.  He was skipping senkos and other plastics under everything.  He hardly ever slows down and fishes like that.  He pulled some good ones out from overhangs.  I think he was using a MH spinning rod,  spider wire on 3000 reel.  Anybody use this approach?  It looks like a lot of fun.  What kinda setup do you use?

I use a 6ft 6in MH spinning rod with a 40 size reel and 8 pound flourocarbon, I can skip senkos any where I want to.

6’6 MH with 8lb and a cardinal 302. You can cast anywhere with that set-up.

The trick is to keep it short 6’ or 6’6 and not too stiff (M or MH). I wouldn’t try it with anything over 10lb line unless your skipping jigs or weighted lures.

I use a 6-9 MH baitcaster with 17lb fluorocarbon. Having a moderate tip is important when skipping jigs and plastics.

Sweet.  Thanks everybody.  One more question.  What type and size hook should I use for senkos?

3/0 or 4/0 EWG. I prefer 4/0 on 5”.

I’ll use a 4/0 EWG if I want the bait to glide away from the boat. Other times I will use a 4/0 straight shank that I modify with a bait keeper so the senko wont slide. This is a lighter hook so I use it when I want more of a straight fall.

I’m a little strange(not hard to believe mental problems you know) but I like a longer rod for skipping I use a 7’4” spinning rod, Quantum Kinetic 40 reel and 10 lb flouro.  I skip senkos, shakey heads, tubes and small t-rigged craws.  I also like a longer baitcaster 7’ MH with 15-17 lb flouro and jigs.

Hook size I like a 2/0 for wacky rigging and a 4/0 for t-rigs on a 5 inch bait.

Has anyone tried those gamakatsu skip gap hook yet? but anyways I use 6’6 Cherrywood (yes a cherrywood) that thing is nasty for skipping, I like to use senkos and berkley finesse worms weightless on a 4/0 ewg. I’ve has lots of luck skipping.
