I got me a new browning a-bolt in 270 wsm and I wonted to try it out so I just shot that doe to see what it would do...I was using a 150 grain winchester silver tip and it pretty much droped her in her tracks!!!

hunted all day sat. and sun. Seen 26 deer total, just none big enough to shoot.  My whole family got 7 though, and alot of shooting going on.  A guy from Quincy,Illinois killed a giant in bow season, potential state record. They say it’s gong to be the biggest deer killed in the u.s. in 2007!!!!

The ruts goin on up here.  Seen small bucks chasing 2-3 does at a time. Actually, i think it’s starting to wind down a little. LOTS of pressure bow hunters are thick, and 2nd gun season comes in tomm!  cool cheese

Illinois is an over populated state, we only have shotgun season and its not a straight thru season like most states, we just had a weekend of 3 days and then its closed, this weekend its on again. Mo has about 9 straight days and i know the southern states had an overpopulation of deer at one time that extended thier seasons much longer. There is a muzzle loader season here as well, but no regular rifles for deer.

there is good hunting here, people from a lot of states come to illinois to hunt, the quality is great, we just dont have the extended long season. the shotgun only i would imagine is to cut down on how far lead travels, last i checked Illinois had over 11 million people, 211 people per square mile......so you can see where devoloped areas is up and huge areas of hunting areas is low. even with restrictions and less of a season, the big corn fed deer still brings hunters from states all around. The biggest problem is the same as every state that dont have a lot of state land, finding a place to hunt
