So I went to Dick’s sporting goods to stock up on a few things for my BFL tourney this week, well since this is the only closest tackle shop near me, and I leave Thursday to go pre fish, They had no 2/0 Gamakatsu ewg which I use for wacky rig, so the only thing they had in a 2/0 hook was those VMC Fast Grip hooks with the 3 barb. I read up on these a long time ago and they’re supposed to make a cleaner puncture threw the fish and if you skin hook a fish the advantage of the 3 barb feature is that the hook will grip the fish better cutting down the chances of it throwing the hook? Not sure If I believe it, but they do look pretty cool I guess. Only thing is, they aren’t as sharp as the gamas, or at least I think. Also they have a slight bend in them which kind of scares me. I’ll use them during prefish and see if I can stick fish without laying into them and risking breaking the line on shock. Has anyone ever used these? And if you have please be honest on your review, I have no experience with any other EWG’s but gamakatsu. I shoulda invested in those trokars when they had them at Dick’s for a limited of time hmmm Please let me know, the last thing I need is sticking a good fish and losing it tourney day hmmm

I have never used those.  Thought about it though.

I would use a circle hook for wacky rigs…just my opinion though.

Only thing I use EWG for is tubes and worms. And also use plenty of Gamakatsu…not sure on those at all.  I do know they are fairly inexpensive.

Should work fine, they are offset a little but that should only help you with hookups.

X I’ve use circles but to be honest I’ve had better luck with the 2/0 EWG

Yeah they are only 3 bucks for 14….

I was thinking of getting a file and seeing if I can sharpen them a little…the VMC on my Rapalas are super sharp, not sure why these arent????

I just got a pack of VMC’s last week and only used them for one day, before I had to go back to the store and buy more Lazer Trokars. I was using the hooks for texas rigged trick worms and felt I was missing fish I would have landed on a Trokar or Gama hook. But 3 bucks for 14 hooks it was worth a try.

Yeah…be careful with the 3 barb thing on the hook…dont want to stick on in your finger..LOL

I wouldnt even waste time if you dont have to sharpening.  I bet you can hit a Wal Mart and find the Gamakatsu hooks.

Where is the BFL out of??

I have a little experience with those hooks. I tried them for Texas rigged worm fishing, and they worked, but I didn’t like them that much. I didn’t get the great hook ups like I do with Gamakatsu hooks. I say try them in pre fishing, and if you like them, stick with them. If you don’t like them, go to plan B. Good Luck in your Tournament.

I hooked into some fish today and yesterday with these things and let me tell you, once that hook goes in, it wont come out. I had to use my pliers to take out every hook even if it were a lip hook. I had fish jumping trying to throw these hooks, but it didnt happen. I’m very impressed, I used them for wacky rig so the hook penetration was good, but I didn’t use them as a standard T Rig…Would I ever try these again? Of course, I was pleased. Just wish they were a bit sharper out of the box, but nothing a file cant fix.

i prefer mustad hooks as they are deadly sharp and reasonably priced. i have tried the vmc with the 3 barbs my bass club gave me for free and i didnt care for them all that much.
