If your athletic and competitive things like this will happen.  I would hate to see a sissy G man say owww gosh darn and put his tail between his legs.

i used to like Gerald.i met him a couple of times but over the past few years i see a swelled head and an I am holier than thou attitude. Recently in the BASS Insider 2 injuries from rods breaking reported. 1st was KVD. setting the hook on a big fish the reel seat broke and cut his hand up. 2nd… Here comes Gerald. Lost a fish at the boat and got mad and slammed the rod down and shattered the rod and reel seat and cut his hand up. I will never let my grandaughter around this attitude. Gerald has to grow up some day. Our man Kevin knows how the sport is played. Gerald loses it and he might as well go back to the ramp and trailer the Triton. he’s done because he can’t recover from a bad moment. That’s why he will not succeed any further. He is destroying his own dream. I know i sound a little blunt about it but he really is a bad example of sportsmanship.

holy crap you dont need to attack the man like that. i know a man that got to be in the boat with gerald for a tourney and he said it was the best experience in the boat he has ever had. g is just a man that has a deep passion for what he does. you need to get a life and stop attacking a man that has done for in his career then you will do in your whole life.

This is an old post, and I may have even posted a comment on here, but as anything in life, things change. G-Man wasnt my favorite person years ago…and certainly not my favorite as a fisherman either, but I have a new found respect for Swindle, I really like who he is as a person and I think hes good for the sport. Family man, isnt afraid to show his emotions and has a passion. I think his passion is so strong that he releases at bad times, but thats ok, its just part of life. Gman is a hero in my book for what he has been thru and the people he has helped because of his experiences. For the most part hes a great role model for kids, who wouldnt want thier kid to have fun doing a job you love.

i think everyone, amateur or pro alike have thrown a rod or a golf club or a helmet etc…. at some point in their life. But as you said, it’s what you do after that. You can let it fester and eat you up, or you can learn from it and move on. tough to move on sometimes but eventually you have to or you won’t be a pro for very long.

Wind out of the north, fishermen should not venture forth
Winds out of the south, blows the bait in the fishes mouth
Winds out of the east, fish bite the least
Winds out of the west, fish bite the best

No way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I met him and his wife or girlfriend at the Icast while eating lunch and they couldn’t have been more nice. we talked for 20 minutes not because he felt he had to but because he wanted to. The guy was a CLASS ACT. Ike gets a bad rap too and he doesn’t deserve it either. Both guys get very emontional when fishing. I like it. it’s their life. No one could be more nice than the both of them. I hope they both have long and succesful fishing careers. YOU GO GERALD.  BH

Ike has calmed down a bit since having kids - not a lot, but no more flag kicking.

I LOL’d when I read a blog entry that he was teaching some ‘bama college kids how to breakdance when this years classic was fog bound.

THAT is the kind of things that I like to read about him…good luck for the all-stars too, Ike!

Give a guy a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach a guy to fish - and he forgets about eating!

I like Ike and G-man….I’m 17. Guys that that make fishing way more entertaining than when someone boring is doing it. Don’t want to rattle anyone here but Denny Brauer on the diamond drive was one of those boring guys.

yeah, i know its and old post. I just wanted to put in my two cents.

A man should not be measured by the mistakes that he makes, but by how he learns from those mistakes and what adjustments he makes after them.

But I’ll tell you, if I was in their class, completing at the level they do, and had that stress load to deal with, I’d be pretty animated myself.  That is a highly competitive environment and that’s how they make their living.  You perform or you don’t get paid.  They have families and bills that depend on them making money, not just having fun.  It’s like working strictly for commission, but at a different level.  Your not just working against yourself, your working against a lot of other guys gunning to take your commission from you.

I really seen that when the Elite guys were in Alabama a couple of years ago.  KVD of course was a class act, as where all of the guys, but I could since the stress in Skeet Reese.  He was cool and everything, but you could really see it written on his face.

I admire how these guys handle themselves for the most part because they have a tremendous amount of stress to deal with and if they lose their cool from time to time I sure ain’t going to hold it against them.

I’m basing my opinion on what I see on tv having never met any of the pros in person but the two people I would absolutely refuse to be in a boat with iare Ike and Mark Davis.  I know they are fishing for a living and I feel the elation everytime I pull a nice bass out of the water but to jump up and down and yell and scream like an idiot??? Naw….nothing wrong with a fist pump and a loud “YEAH” but I’ve seen Ike lay down and yell and scream and look like he’s having convulsions after boating a fish.  An idiot IMHO.

As for Mark Davis. Nothing sportsmanlike about him.  After what he did to Dean Rojas on Untimate Match Fishing I hope he never catches another fish as long as he lives.  Again…JMHO.

Even after that deal I’d still love to be paired up with Mark. He is one of the top 5 offshore structure fishermen in the pro’s and I could learn a lot from him.
As far as Rojas, I think he was screwed by Joe Thomas more so then Davis. If Joe hadnt warned Mark about having six fish in the box, then he would have been DQ’d and Rojas would have won.

That is true.  Joe Thomas should have kept his mouth shut and let it play out.  But still, to me if Dean was going to be gentleman enough to stay off Mark’s fish then Mark should have given him free run time to his next spot.
