I was at a shop this morning and noticed some Quantum spools of something called a fluoro coated monofilament, from what i could understand out of the shop keeper, all in all its a mid way between the stretch of a standard mono and a pure fluoro line, without the plus of the 20 percent refraction improvement, basically having a nylon core it does nullify the small improvement given by the thin fluoro layer, the abrasion resistance is comparable to fluo for a short while, as short as thin the fluo coating is basically, now the question is, would you you really use this kind of line in some scenario? Actually, did you at all? I think the memory is higher than mono, probably closer if not exactly the same of pure fluoro, thats all shopkeeper saying so im sellin it for what I bought it!
ps: has anyone tryed the new Sunline Technician by chance? I read a lot of hype but about serious reviews not the shadow… im a big sunline fan and im pretty courious to see all the pro this line has if any
The line you are talking about is a copolymer line. A lot of people use copolymer line when they want the softness and control of mono with the visibility of flouro. I have Yo Zuri Hybrid on my finesse spinning gear and I love it. The breaking strength is very good. I have not tried the Sunline Technician as I don’t have enough money to buy Sunline products but I would definatly try some Yo Zuri Hybrid.
Sounds perfect to replace mono with bass, i found out recently how useless is to have mono once the trout season is over, i noticed that with bass i dont need cast further then 45’ or so ever, beside spinnerbatits buts thats on a casting reel with full fluo doesnt really matter, i used thin braid before on spinning gear, casting wise it could match and even beat mono, but those occasinal backlashes and the price of braid made me abandon it for very long casts purpose
Actually, I like it much better than fluorocarbon….copoly has excellent knot strength, can still fish well with nicks and abrasions in the line. Overall, IMO….better than fluorocarbon. Not quite as sensitive, but I have good rods that help with that, and I always have a finger on the line anyway.
I use Pline…you should be able to get it in Italy…its made in France.
ouch… France…lolz, jokes apart yep we got PLine everywhere here in most shops thankfully, ill give that Quantum a go tho first.. 300 yards for 7 euros.. ive seen exyer mono before i swear!!
Thats as cheap, well I hope hes got some over there what can I say, he deals with quantum gear a lot but also holds some other brands like Sunline, i maybe lucky and go straight for Pline
I usually buy it in 600 yd spools for about 14$...pretty good price for the quality. I have used sunline…but just too much money for me. 30$ for about 200 yards in insane. I change out line too often for that. I would spend 75$ a month just on line!!!
Yes its sick and I hate it!!!! But man when it come to fluoro leader line (i cant find spooling cheap version on thin sizes) you need something that good or close.. that would be toray or varivas, the price difference is very small sadly. The only quality 4 to 6 lbs fluoro i was able to use so far beside sunline leader was the molix enki ,which is just toray manufactured, consider that i dont have many options at my place, and the few ppl that does bass fish are either rich or close to it and thats why here its flooded with made in jap stuff and its hard to find USA real deals which I hate, you wont belive how hard it was to find some tough rod like the falcon and the all star over here 2nd handed, and how easy it is to find megabass deps and what naught 500 to 600 euros rods!! to see em explode at ur first cast very often lol. Problem is some ppl doesnt fish to catch fish and have a good time, some ppl needs big names on the gear to feel they are pros, even over here at my place LOL… the you will see this 10 yo kid skip with a low end shimano broomstick rod 30 bucks… “but but! i have a megabass tsk tsk!” .............
