3/16 with worms. Use heavy weight when fishing deep or in heavy cover, light when fishing shallow. General all around places I have 3/16 tied on.

I use the lightest I can get away with depending on depth, wind, ect.

I rarely use anything less then a 1/4oz. I fish a lot of stuff 8-20ft and the weight gets it down there and keeps the bait on the bottom. I do use a 1/2 when fishing current or when I am dragging the bait instead of hopping it.

About 75% of the time its a 1/2oz. When fishing deeper structure or in stronger current I will change up to a 3/4oz.

1/4 oz for me, never really had a need to go higher in weight.  Actually was using a 1/4oz weight with a 10” junebug Zoom worm this past weekend while working a main lake point (dragging it down the point) and landed two nice ones(posted in team B-A-S-Sanovas page in Fantasy fishing forum) in a matter of 7 casts.  The conditions you are fishing should dictate the size weight you need.

All of you make very good points, the only reason I switched to 1/2oz is to get better bottom contact.

If I’m flipping I’ll normally go with a 1/4 oz. if the cover isn’t too thick. If I feel the bait isn’t reaching the bottom then I’ll switch to a 1/2oz. I also use a 1/2 oz. when dragging a worm across the bottom most times.

Now that we know what weight people prefer while fishing a 10” worm, here is another question. What size, and kind of hook is the best for rigging a 10” worm? I don’t fish the 10” worm a lot, but when I do, I use a 7/0 off set hook. Is there a better option?

When I’m flipping the 10” worm, I use either a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG hook.
But when I’m dragging the bottom I’ll be using a 5/0 offset worm hook. Anything bigger seems awkward to me.

JP DeRose on Getting Schooled suggested a 10/0 or 11/0 for using 10”+ worms.  gulp I’d think a 5-7/0 EWG or offset should work just fine, but I’m far from an expert on big worms.

Same here with the 5/0 EWG. Its about perfect for the 10-12 inchers.
