I don’t know a single individual that I fish with that uses a quantum rod or reel.Shimanos are the choice down here in Alabama. My favorite rods are Kistlers my fishing buddy only uses G Loomis.

If I understand your question. My answer would be that I’ll continue to buy what I feel like is the best value and quality and meets my needs and use that product regardless of what name is on it.
Probably keep buying Quantum & I guaranty they wouldn’t have the snooty, smarmy attitude & predictions of failure that a lot of Shimano, Daiwa, & Loomis fans have when someone leaves them.
I like the Shimano 50Mg reels a lot, but I have limited use for them. They are great for light cranks and finesse jigs, but for other applications I stick with Quantum or Abu. I also primarily use Kistler for everything but deeper cranking. For that I use KVD Tours.
I have a few KVD branded reels/rods….and they work great for what they are intended to do. If Kistler had a good deep cranking stick, I would own one. So to answer your question, if its top notch, and doesnt have a $500 price tag, then I will look at it at one point or another regardless of who’s name is on it.
Me personally, the only KVD product I have is his line & lure conditioner, so it wouldn’t affect me at all. Of course, no sponsorship switch by any pro/personality is gonna make me switch brands, only the quality of the product & service of a brand can make me do that. I use Abu reels(keep thinking about Pflueger spinning reels though, the new Patriarchs look absolutely sick) & whatever stick I can score the best deal on, which has been Kistler & Fenwick for the most part with a Lucky Craft & Powell sprinkled in there, is what I go with.
I bought a Quantum spinning combo a while back and it’s the only combo I use. After I fished it for a while and then went back to my old $20 Bass Pro Shops spinning combo it was so much heavier and the reel was so much rougher I couldn’t use it anymore. So, it sits in the garage collecting dust and I don’t know if i’m going to get it out again for any other reason but to sell it. When I decide to get a new fishing combo i’ll most likely get another Quantum. I did buy it because KVD uses Quantum equipment but I think if he changes sponsors I would have to stick with Quantum. The reels are smooth and if you buy a combo the rod is very sensitive too.
Hum, that’s strange. I live and fish in Alabama and I don’t know anyone that I can think of that “prefers” Shimano. Most everyone I know fishes with Quantum or Abu Garcia. As for me, I prefer the Abu Garcia. There were a few different brands that I have tried that I just didn’t like. Abu Garcia just happened to be the one I tried next in line and really liked it. That could have happened with Pfleuger or a number of other manufactures. I’m just the kind of person that when I find something that works for me, I’m not very likely to swap. If I was looking to add a rod or reel to my inventory, I would consider buying a rod and reel that was the signature series of a pro angler if it fit my needs and I liked to way it worked. But I don’t think I would swap out my whole inventory if my favorite angler changed sponsors. But if you are curious, Shimano and Daiwa are two brands that I tried and they really didn’t work for me. Those are two brands that I am most likely to stay away from, no matter who they sponsor.
I didn’t start this threat to start any controversy. When I started bass fishing in the 1950’s I learned to cast with a direct drive Shakespeare reel. When I bought a 5000 abu I thought I had gone to heaven.I use these reels to fish Lake Talquin in the 60’s& 70’s.Fishing Lake Martin I used spinning reels, old Cardinal 3’s and 4’s(still use these). In 1981 I bought a condo. on Perdido Key.For the next 12 years I salt water fished. In 1997 I bought a place on Smith Lake,Al and fished with the spinning reels.I had no idea the improvements that had been made in casting reels.I hooked up with an old friend who fished Lake Seminole every spring. He used Shimanos so I bought a couple to try.I read the reel reviews on tackle tour and have bought a couple of revos.I like these reels for heavier baits but have a hard time adjusting the magnetic brakes for lighter lures.I have not bought any tackle because some pro uses it.It just seemed to me that some people on this site used Quantums just because KVD does.I haven’t used any Quantum reels so I can’t comment on these. If you are happy great. As of now I am happy using Shimanos.Good fishing and God Bless.
haha Born to fish funny. if the guy wants to look like a banana thats his business. J/k So dont get all reilied up Skeet fans know KVD is the Real deal!
