Well I just helped my dad order some jig pouring equipment as my Christmas present. I can’t wait for it all to be here! I will post some pics up of my creations when I make some.

Right on man. Its a money saver if you fish a lot of jigs. I need to get back out to the garage and start pouring myself.

Are wheel weight fine to pour with? I have heard that they aren’t the best source of lead.

I really like that Arkie jig. Caught a lot of good fish on those a couple years back.

they are fine. Just have to melt the lead off them. MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT STEEL IRON OR ZINC! May have to flux a time or two but I doubt it with a hot-pot if you get the lead hot enough. The wheel weights will smoke like a b*tch, so do it outside!.

ALWAYS pour lead with lots of ventilation, the fumes are toxic. You want to be outside or in a building with all windows open and a fan blowing. NEVER inside the house. Wash your hands immediately when you get done, they will be covered in lead. lead poisoning is nothing to mess with.

Good luck and have fun! Post pictures!

Well I recieved everything today besides my skirts. I still have to make a rack to hang the jigs so I haven’t painted the ones I have made yet. Here is a pic of the first ones I poured.

I found a way to hang the jigs in the toaster oven without a rack made, so I decided to paint them tonight. 2 of them have too much paint and have the nipple affect and 2 didn’t get covered in paint. I can’t complain though as this is my 1st time. Overall, I am happy with how they turned out.

Not too bad. Something I ended up doing that may help you out in the long run is using a paper clip and running it through the eye. This way when you hang the baits to dry any excess paint wont run and dry on the eye of the hook.

Good first start! you need to mess with the temp to get a good covering. You want it just hot enough that the whole jig gets covered but not the eye of the hook. The paint might be a little rough like sandpaper but it will smooth out after baking. If you add too much you will get a nipple or a jig with no contour. If the eye of the jig is getting covered, your jig is too hot when painting. It took me a while to get the hang of it, after 500 ish I finally figured it out.

Does anyone have some tips on powder painting. I am having problems either getting too much or too little paint on it. I am thinking that it will be easier for me to stick all of my jigheads in the toaster oven to preheat them instead of using a candle.

I painted some roundheaded jigs and used a torch, like you would use to sweat pipes together. I only had to pass a 3/16oz head through the flame like 5 times and it would be hot enough. What messes it up is if the whole jig doesnt get hot the paint will be messed up . it takes practice.

when in doubt swing it
