Classic TV: week delay 2/7/2011
Although the sport’s still abuzz with energy following the sale of B.A.S.S., there’s one immediate effect of that sale that’s sure to disappoint BassFans: Next week’s Bassmaster Classic TV coverage on ESPN2 will work on a 1-week delay. During the ESPN ownership era, same-day Classic coverage, including some live coverage, was the norm.

The 2010 Classic TV schedule looks like this (all times Eastern):

Friday, Feb. 25: ESPN Classic
7 pm - 2001 Classic Highlight Show
8 pm - 2003 Classic Highlight Show
9 pm - 2004 Classic Highlight Show
10 pm - 2007 Classic Highlight Show
11 pm - 2010 Classic Highlight Show

Saturday, Feb. 26: ESPN2
10 am - 2011 Classic Day 1

Sunday, Feb. 27: ESPN2
5 am - 2011 Classic Day 1
6 am - 2011 Classic Day 2
3 pm - 2011 Classic Day 2
10 pm - 2011 Classic Day 3

There’ll be a rebroadcast from 5-9 am on Sunday, March 6.

It should be noted that while the Classic will air on a 1-week delay, the Forrest Wood Cup typically airs on at least a 1-plus-month delay.

Talk about a rough start for the new owners confused I thought it was great to have them show the Classic the same days it is happening.

Can’t really blame the new owners because part of the sales agreement was that ESPN was still going to air the Classic.  It really should be a dig on ESPN, they never have nor will they ever take bass fishing seriously as a true professional sport.

I am glad they are even covering it, they axed all the other programs, maybe a different channel will pick up B.A.S.S. in the next few years when the contract is up and we can get the coverage we want.

I am really hoping that someone new like Vs. Or The Outdoor Channel does pick them up and do a lot more coverage!

Yeah the new schedule sucks compared from the past.  But at the same time, the past wasnt all that great either since you had to stay up so late on a Sunday to see the final weigh-in.  I agree, I’d like to see Vs pick this up and get away from ESPN’s coverage.  I’d be interested in hearing what the new owners plan to do with coverage of not only the Classic but for the other events thru the year as well.  Dont see why they can strike up a deal with a channel and get same day coverage of each event, even if it was only the weekend.  At least there will be a daily blog during the classic to help follow whats going on while on the water…..I hope.

The word from Jerry is this was his decision.  The LA Delta is to big to give enough time to adaquately produce a show.

That should be produce a same day show.  As the schedule at the start of the thread shows there is a week delay before TV coverage begins.  I’m pretty sure they will do a DVD.
