I’ve used PP & Stren Sonic in lb test the last 2 years & I honestly don’t see much of a difference between them. They both were plenty strong for frogging, handled well, & lost their color quite fast. I’ve used Stren Mircrofuse & Cajun for lighter braids & they both worked fine for me in the under 20lb range. I have one spool of Fused Fireline & after the initial shock of how different it was compared to braid & loosening it up by casting it repeatedly, I thought it was pretty good as well.
In short, I’ve liked just about every braid I’ve tried except for Cabela’s, which isn’t that round & tends to get caught on the cast a lot more than the other braids I’ve used.
I’m a big fan of Power Pro. I’m all about performance, and value, and Power Pro has both. The fact that is doesn’t stay dark doesn’t bother me all that much. It seems to blend in more in cleaner water as it fades out. I mainly use braid for frog fishing, and pitching in to HEAVY cover. What are some other techniques when you feel using braid is important?
I voted for Power Pro but its all I’ve used and have been happy with it. I’ve been tempted to try other braid, mainly Suffix (I like their mono line) but just dont pull the trigger to spend the money on it.
I remember back in the 90s probally 93-94, I bought a spool of spiderwire when it first came out. It was like 40 bucks for a 200 yard spool. It crazy how far its come so much easier to use.
I use PowerPro up to 30lb then I switch to Berkley FireLine braid 65lb for flippin and froggin.
Has any one tried the new Suffix 832 braid yet, If so how do you like it. Ive been thinking of giving it a try.
Well I just bought some of that Daiwa Samurai braid a month ago. I am going to try it this year on my heavy cover rod. As of right now it is very quiet and super smooth through the guides.
Another Sufix user here. Been using it on spinning gear for several years now. I’d like to try out their Ice braid for sub-freezing action. Just spooled up some 50# Sufix on my froggin rod and couldn’t be happier.
