After today, I’m sure the lake broke 50 degrees. It has been in the 45 degree area, but it was sunny and about 70 all day today.
I’m not sure if KVD has fished the lake or not; it wouldn’t surprise me. There have been a lot of pro guys who have fished the lake quite a bit. It’s a very well known lake for smallmouth bass, as you probably know.
Is the current world record still held there? I know it was for a long time, but I’ve been so out of touch with bass fishing the past decade, I’m not sure if it was broken, I just found out the LM was broken/ tied in Japan a few weeks ago. Shows how out of touch I am, with current info. Dale Hallow has been on my to do list forever, I’d love to get that huge smallmouth that got away in Indiana. But w/o a boat, it’s not really feasible at this point in my life. Best of luck on your trip though, go get a monster Bronzeback for me.
yes, the world record smallmouth is still there, i think it is 11 lb 15 oz caught in 1955, the next 2 biggest SM to that were also caught there. I will be on Dale Hollow from 5 thru 7 April. Can’t wait. I just can’t find a website to keep track of the water temps. I had heard that because the water is so clear that it warms up real slow.

I do believe the biggest smallmouth is still the one from Dale Hollow; it weighed over 11 pounds. If someone did get one bigger than that, I never heard anything about it.
That largemouth from Japan was HUGE! I thought it was photoshopped when I first seen the article, but it was then all over the news and ESPN.

Check this site out periodically; it is normally up to date:
yeah I heard it’s almost gin, leave the baitcasting stuff at home I’d imagine, it’s spinning time with sub 10 lb line. Although fluoro may have changed that. I hated the clear water out on Lake Mead, the bite is so tough, ultra light tackle was the only way I got squat when I lived in Vegas. Dropped my Oakley sunglasses overboard by accident, Depth finder showed 58’ ,and I saw them on the bottom. That was back in ‘92. I’ve heard from people that are more serious about the sport and travel that Dale is almost as clear under the right circumstances.
my guide told me they start staging for the spawn at 50 and they spawn between 55 and 65 degrees, they all don’t spawn at the same time and the guide told me they spawn in 8 to 12 feet of water which shocked me for being that deep but the water is so clear they can spawn deeper. so i’ll do my best shaw grigsby imitation and do some sight fishing
yeah thats what i heard that even clearer then the great lakes deffinalty spinning gear and floro i think the best bait would be a bucktail jig with some kind of uncle josh pork on the back or a 3.5 green pumpkin tube with an intral weight
it’s been 46 degrees surface and 45 degrees at 10 feet even when it was winter there. they had a colder winter than normal, i do remember the temp getting close to 42 degrees, the gizzard shad die off at 42, but the alewifes are heartier and school up deeper. i know it’s clear, the guide told me if they get some rain the runoff from the creeks will give the water some color, they have been getting a lot of rain lately.
the guide told me you don’t need flouro and only runs a flouro leader occasionally, but just use clear, clear, clear mono, not clear blue flourescent or green, i guess the water is gin clear.
i’ve been on lake erie even after the zebra mussels cleared up the water and there is still a green color to it in the western basin, average depth in the western basin is about 35 feet, you can see down maybe 10 or 12 ft. if that
