15 or 17lb Spiderwire Ultracast 100% Fluorocarbon would be my choice, although Trilene 100% would be an excellent choice as well. I also wouldn’t hesitate to throw them on a good copoly like Gamma or P-line a line size smaller than fluorocarbon.

do you guys using flouro find that it bird nests easier than other lines?

I did with cheap stuff.  Then I went to the 100% fluoro and it really did the trick. Problem is….it’s a bit pricey.

Put cheap mono backing on any reel you’re gonna use fluorocarbon on, that makes it’s cost a bit more easy to bear. Fill it as far as you need for how far you’re planning on casting while leaving some extra for cutting & retying. I usually get 3 fills out of a 200 yard spool, probably could get another if I got really fancy with it. I think it helps keep the line a bit more manageable as well.

14-17 lb silver thread clear, low stretch, good abrasion resistence, doesn’t birdsnest, great casting, strong, low visibility

is silver thread the brand? never heard of it.

Yes, Silver Thread is the brand name. You want to get Silver Thread Excalibur, clear in 14-17 lb. It is a copolymer line, very strong and sensitive, much cheaper than fluorocarbon or braid. I use 14 lb and i have confidence in it for whatever i throw or wherever i throw it. never had it break on me yet, and ties very good, strong knots.

I would use 17lb floro. I like seaguar invizx but I dont think what brand you use matters to much. The only 1 I used and will never use again is vanish transition floro. I broke off more fish with that than any line ever

when in doubt swing it
