Question about braided line.  I just got back from fishing Newton Lake in Illinois and had mulitple break off’s when setting the hook.  A few on my jig rod and few on my tube rod.  Im using 50lb Power Pro and I consistantly check my lines for any issues that would need to be addressed for the need of retying.  I felt that I had my drag set fine on both reels, slight little give when pulled by hand.  Heck, I tied on a new jig and on the second spot I threw my jig in, I hopped it once and got a hit and broke my line.  None of these were close to the boat, closest was probably 12-13 feet away.  Is there something that Im missing here when using braid?  Thanks for any help you guys may have.

It could have been the knot braid is notorius for slipping if the right knot was not tied.  Also did you check to see if the line just slipped thru the eye of the hook becuase of the thin diameter of the line it will slip thru where the jig eye bends back around to create the hook eye.  I use only the Palomar knot and super glue it so it wont slip on me.

There is no gap in the eye, and if it did and the line did slip out, wouldnt my knot still be tied?  And when I look at my line, it doesnt have a knot in it nor is it messed up at the end as if the knot itself came undone, it looks like the line was cut.  I use a braid knot and I feel that I tie it really well.

agree with quantum, braid slips realy easy and is hard to get a tight knot. also check your last rod tip and make sure its not cut into, but most likely its the slick surface slipping

Use a San Diego Jam Knot it is very easy to tie and when using braid make sure you run the line thru the eye twice. the diagram I gave you will only show going thru once.  This is the only knot I use with braid and it will not disappoint you.  So tie on that amazon cable and hook a hog,  Good luck with that line and with that knot you can pull tree root up with the fish wink

Check your rod guides, if it’s cuttin into it then it can weaken the line.  I’v had it happen once or twice.  I love power pro, the only time i have done this is while setting the hook while mat fishing with a tungsten weight(1 1/2oz.& 65lb test).  Sucks to watch a 4dollar weight hit open water!!!

Has this been an on going problem or just a one time deal? The reason I ask is it could be possible that you got a spool from a bad batch of braid.  Just asking.

That reminds me of the 1st time I tried vanish. It broke over and over again. Bad spool. They should put a ‘Born On’ date on spools.

bwahahahah, thats great, a born on date.  Actually that would be good that way we would know how long that line was sitting at the warehouse or at the store.  This is the first time this has happened.  And this is a fresh spool.  I just have this feeling that my drag was set wrong.  I dont want to lose confidence with it because I fish alot of grass and getting mono to cut through it is just silly to ask.  I know im going to stop using the braid knot and go back to the palomar knot and see it that could be a solution though the end piece doesnt dictate that its my knot.  If I can get out of my b-day stuff early on thursday, Im going to try and jump on here and ask the man what he thinks.  Gonna be tough seeing its my 30th and everyone is making it a big deal could pose a problem.
