This summer I got a Pflueger Patriarch (silver one) on clearance.  I thought it would be the best reel I have.  The casting on that bugger isn’t that great.  I figured maybe it sat to long on the shelf and needs to be exercised.  I even re-oiled it.  It left me thinking that I should of gotten a Curado.

That stinks, what exactly is wrong with it? Have you tried a full strip n clean? Wipe off all old grease and oil with Q-tip and re-apply new.

Yep, I cleaned and inspected it and found nothing wrong.  I lightly lubed it with the oil Shimano supplies.  I was casting a 3/8 s/b and the distance wasn’t there.  I set up right w/ the spool tension and only set two centrifugal brakes.  If I back off on the spool tension a skosh it blows up.  I use the same setup with my older President and it casts considerably further.  I know a guy who had a problem with his Cetinas backspooling on the hookset.  He sent them in for repair and Pflueger sent him two new trions-no charge.  That’s probally what I should do.

I just got a 64WLP & that thing flings them farther than my Premier or Tournament Pro Speed Spool. I had trouble with it blowing up & casting short when I first spooled it up, but I was using a stiff rod, with stiff line, & only a 1/4oz plug, I went up to 1/2oz & it was going over the horizon. What line do you have spooled on it? The 15lb Izorline I had on it was death to cast 1/4oz with, but it handles 1/2oz(my intended purpose, lipless cranks) like a dream.

Set 2 more centrifugal brakes and loosen the spool tension and magnetic brakes or turn all the centrifugal brakes off and adjust the spool tension and magnetic tension to get what you expect.

The only reason I can think of as to why its not casting great for you is if you unknowingly set 4 brakes on and 2 off instead of the 2 brakes on and 4 off. I know I had I to look at the schematics of my Pro Q’s a couple times to remind myself which way is on and off. Just remember, the ones that are on should be the ones that slide up and down freely if you mess with it with your finger.

Did the same thing on my ProQ. brought out the chart and fixed it pronto. i like the quantum KVD signature, it has a dial from 1 to 6 that you turn instead of little switches up and down
