I managed to get hooked tonight. I was having a good night, got two 2.5lbers & one over 3 on a bluegill Spro Dawg & it was starting to get fairly dark, so I decided to throw a skitterpop a bit before leaving. First cast, I worked it & when I got to the middle it disappeared under the water. I pulled back & had a guppy hooked. I reeled him in & he had the front treble in the mouth & the back treble in his front lower fin. I grabbed him by the back & just popped the back treble out of his fin when he shook enough to get the hook I just popped free stuck in my middle finger. I dropped the fish & followed him to the ground with my stuck finger & quickly as possible got the treble out of his mouth & tossed him back in the water. It was in past the barb, but luckily the barb on it wasn’t very big & I just bit my lip & pulled it loose. A little bit of blood, but not too bad as I double timed it back to the car & my hook removal kit. Used the alcohol & iodine pads to clean it quickly & bandaided it up & decided it was time to call it a night.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but I still don’t ever want to do it again. I can only imagine how bad that would be if it was a thick wire, big barbed hook, it’d have to be excruciating getting hooked & then getting it out. On a pond note, the weeds are dying & sticking badly to just about everything I throw, hard to work baits without getting coated in crap. Fishing is picking up though, hopefully I can nail some bass & have a couple big crappie days to have some fish in the freezer.

I haven’t been hooked badly yet and hopefully I wont but I’m sure my time is coming.  Good to hear it wasn’t too bad for you and you could get the hook out easily.

I got it bad in the leg once with a 3/0 catfish hook. Went into my calf past the bend of the hook, had to get it cut out at the ER. The lady there asked if I wanted her to just pull it out, I looked at her and said “no”.. obviously she had no idea there was a barb on the end and it was 2” deep in my leg.

should’ve stuck one in her leg and asked her if she just wanted you to pull it out

Ive gotten it good twice in the past 2 years, this year has been a treble. I had a fish and 2 fingers hooked all at once. That wasnt fun.

Ouch BBK, that had to suck big time. Makes me think how lucky I was when I got a jighead stuck in some rapids in the river & went to break the line & instead of the line breaking, it stretched & stretched until the hook straightened out & the leadhead flew back and smacked me upside the head. If that thing had swung back point first, eh… shock I can imagine how bad that would be stick um. Only having a guppy on & one hook was pretty bad, I can’t imagine having two fingers stuck & having to deal with getting a fish off before worrying about getting the hooks out.

My finger’s a little tender today, but not that bad, just a bit sore when I try doing something with it. Was thinking about going back out tonight, but it’s blowing like a banshee out there, so unless that dies down, I think I’ll just get some stuff done around the house.

got lucky it seems..

the other day at the lake my partner stuck me with a zara spook rite in the back! 2 of the 3 hooks on one of the trebles were past the barb.. quite painful to say the least

It wasnt too bad, hurt when she pushed on it to see how far it was in there (guess she didnt believe me). but when she stuck me with a syringe full of chit right next to the hook, I couldn’t even feel a thing for like a day. She sliced me, wiggled the hook out and put a stitch in it… whole thing took maybe 15 minutes after I got to see the doc.

Or you could just learn how to pull it out.. take a leather cord and wrap it around the hook and yank!

Coulda been worse.  I have seen two times guys get sloppy with a Musky hook removal and get hooked.  Now they are hooked to a 50” fish and it’s thrashing HARD !!  shock
Bad stuff.

Yeah, maybe if the bend of the hook was still exposed. Unfortunately this wasn’t a normal hook and it was past the bend of the hook, all that was sticking out was a hook shank.

I thought about unhooking muskies/pike & saltwater fish how bad that would be. Not only bigger fish, bigger hooks too. Thinking about it just feels like a nightmare.
