Coulda been worse.  I have seen two times guys get sloppy with a Musky hook removal and get hooked.  Now they are hooked to a 50” fish and it’s thrashing HARD !!  shock
Bad stuff.

I thought about unhooking muskies/pike & saltwater fish how bad that would be. Not only bigger fish, bigger hooks too. Thinking about it just feels like a nightmare.

Alot of guys cut the hooks off and let the fish go. or use a looong nose pliers and unhook the fish while its still in the net/ cradle

A little bass hooked me in the spring.  I was using a popper.  He slipped out of my hand and a hook caught my thumb.  He was shaking that lure like a Yorky on a chew toy.  Dorsal spine or not I grabbed him right away.  Also,  I always try to wear glasses.  You never know when that hook’s coming back at you.

Man that just sounds painful.

I caught myself in the lip once while fly-fishing in Montana.  I went to back-cast a pretty heavy fly when a gust of wind blew it right at me.  I tried to roll cast it but it was too late - I size 4 woolybugger right into my upper lip.  Luckily it was a barbless hook and came right out - but man that hurt.

Wind out of the north, fishermen should not venture forth
Winds out of the south, blows the bait in the fishes mouth
Winds out of the east, fish bite the least
Winds out of the west, fish bite the best

Ouch!  I whacked myself in the back of the head with a clouser.  I didn’t let the backcast roll out.
