I have had some luck fishing the 1.5 and 2.5 this year. I caught some good fish while fishing these over the tops of weeds and around rocks and brush. My favorite colors are bluegill, green gizzard shad, and black/chart (for muddy water)
I didn’t use one until the end of the season this year erly fall 1.5 and 2.5. They were great in clear and muddy water, ripping the thru and over weeds were the ticket!! Cant wait to try them in the spring.
i plan on trying them in the clear pond first, I think anything with a rattle spooks these fish. i fish over the weeds growing on a ledge below the matted weeds. All the ponds that i have fished, i have never caught anything on a lure with rattles. they just aren’t accustomed to the noise.
I would have liked the 1.5 or 2.5 but i’m talking shallow water and i don’t want to bury the bait in the weeds, plus the water is so clear these fish are really spooky and i thought the smaller size and no rattles might be the best bet.
If it does well there, then i may buy some 1.5 or 2.5’s for the other ponds in stained water. i never fish muddy water because these ponds don’t muddy up even after a torrential rain. i got Bluegill, sexy shad and chrome sexy shad as colors. thanks guys, i’ve been reading good reviews but i trust the guys on this site more.
All 3 sizes have worked for me this year. I throw the 1.5 in chart/black most of the time. My lakes here are usually stained and bluegill are the abundant forage, so it matches the hatch. I’ll also fish the orange bell craw in stained water.
I like the green gizzard shad, ghost sexy and chrome sexy in clearer water.
In muddy water I kick it up to the 2.5 but still fish the chart/black. I just have a lot of confidence in this color around here.
good info, thanks guys. I would of liked to have bought more colors but i didn’t want to commit the bucks until i had confidence the bait was going to work for me. I went with the 1.0 because most of the water i fish is 5’ deep or less and the bass in these ponds seem really spooky with any baits with rattles, especially the gin clear pond.
I always have the bluegill 1.5 tied on. It caught my all of my biggest bass this year. I prefer the rattling version, a BPS exclusive, but I have both.
the Forest preserve ponds i fish don’t allow boats with motors so the bass is not used to a lot of noise in the water, rattles just seem to spook these fish.
I’ve had much better results with Bomber SquareA’s, Xcalibur XCS’ (all 3 sizes) and Lucky Craft’s. They seem to provide better action and the finishes are much more durable. But, when fishing tournaments, I almost always throw my Lucky Craft Ricky Clunn 2.5’s. Not meaning to insult KVD, but I’m not very fond of Strike King cranks.
got my KVD 1.0’s last night, god they are small. what do you do throw them on spinning gear? i think i’m going to try that and see how it goes. i want to use light line anyway in the clear water pond. They look good, we’ll see how they fish.

i’ll see which one works better and go with that. i want to get long casts and i have trouble getting long casts with light lures on a baitcaster. i’m probably going to use 8 lb line.
