I plan on upgrading my unit up front by the trolling motor this xmas. I want to know what everyone thinks on whether i should get the 7 or the 8 and why.. Im on somewhat of a budget and thats why the biggest ill go is 8 for up front. Basically what im asking is the HDS 8 worth the extra money for the unit up front? Thanks, Johnny

I have an HDS8 I run on the console. If I was to run an HDS unit up front I personally wouldnt go any smaller. If you fish offshore and need to use the split screen for GPS and sonar I think its a bit small with the 7” screen. For running the banks or for shallow water the HDS7 would be just fine. Really all depends on what you use your electronics for and how much you use them. For me the idea set-up would be a HDS10 on the console and the HDS8 up front. Both would be able to be hooked up to one LSS-1 structure scan unit so you would have DI and SI on both units.

Yea thats exactly what i was thinking. Over the last season ive fished more and more offshore. Thanks, im gonna try and make the HDS 8 happen up front. Also i want to get the hydrowave cuz i have been fishing more offshore.

I have the 8 on the console and the 7 up front.  I choose the 8 over the 10 because it has a better picture.  The 8 and the 10 have the same pixels, so when you stretch it from 8” to 10”, it distorts the picture a little. 

But if you can only get one, I would defiantly suggest the 8.

Wow thanks i will deffinetly be looking into that. But the HD8 has kind of got me sold especially if i can get it just a little over $1000 or right at it. With all the great deal to come and going around now its possible :D

Heck, at 3 rebates per household I thought about buying 3 and selling two to pay for the first one with the profit!

You really could do that i you could find people to buy or sell on the right site

I should have kept my mouth shut…....lol
Lowrance is hard to beat IMO. The HDS units are great since they fixed the water seal and processor issues.
