Does anyone know what spray attractants out there are anise scented (much like Xcite baits uses)?  I’m tempted to just make my own with anise oil and cod oil, but would like to find an after market spray if I can.

just add the anise oil to whatever you are using now, should be ok.

Well, I don’t use any spray on scents currently (except my Dulce & Gabbana cologne haha).  I found some anise oil at Jann’s Netcraft and CVS has 16 oz bottles of cod liver oil.  I’m gonna try my hand at making my own stuff and see how it does.  I’m mainly gonna use this stuff for my jigs and will put some in my bags of soft plastics.

any type of scent should help, especially in cold water or stained or muddy water

I know making your own is the cheapest route to take, but I started using KVD’s fish sticks last year and I’m pretty happy with them. This isnt a plug for KVD or anything but I used both the shad and the crawfish and was impressed at how long the scent actually stayed on the bait. Definately better them most of the others I have used.

I can atest to this comment.  when fishing with him last year, he brought them up while digging thru his tackle because I could smell them.  He wasnt trying to sell me on anything, just giving his honest opinion.  They are strong and I can definetly see where they would stay on your bait a long time.

As for putting scent on jigs Cranker, just my opinion but I really like BANG! Pure Craw.  Its in an aerosol can, easy to apply, great scent, and the fish slam my jigs and tubes hard.

What did his stuff smell like?  I may give the Bang! a try.

KVD had the fishsticks made up with ground craws and shad I believe. So there is natural oils (and other stuff) in them. You can smell the organic stuff but you can also smell the garlic they use.

Do you like them?  I’m just a little leery about spending $9 per tube.

Yea, I like them. A tube will last a while because you wont need to reapply as often as other scents. And it really doesnt take much to get the scent on your bait. Only issue I have experience with them is having them melt some on really hot days. But it was mostly my fault for leaving it on the deck and not protecting it.

Should I get the shad, craw or both?

Do you use the shad on anything swimming and craw on plastics and jibs?

You know how it is, you choose the shad then get on the water with the shad scent and you see a ton of crawdads all over, and you wish you had the craw. so get both.

The craw smelled like the BANG I use.  Nice and strong.  I prefer BANG for my jigs and tubes because I can spray it on easier for such a small lure, but I can see where the KVD stick would stay on longer if applied.  If you wanted to use a swimbait or something and want a fish smell, the shad stick is the way to go, BANG makes a shad scent but I’d go with the KVD stick for that.

scent is something i am going to make a big effort to use more next year. never used much this year and i have plenty. first thing i got to do is put it in my backpack when i head out.

to get your scent to last longer on your bait, spray it on at night before you go fishing and let it dry, it will still feel gooey but it won’t wash off as quick when it’s being retrieved
