I normally don’t consider the BPS reels anymore, but I will get one or maybe more of these. They look 10x better than that nasty gold Lite reel from last year & under 6oz in 3 gear ratios for $130 with them going on sale for $100(you know it will happen several times a year), I will be down. Might get a 5.x for finesse cranking down the road.

I have read a lot of talk about these lately. These are easily going to be the best reels out there for $130. I don’t know if I will pick any up though cuz I have no need for another rod and reel after getting the Curado 50e yesterday and me only being able to fish this year until July. When July comes, I won’t be fishing for atleast a year downer

Basic training at Lackland AFB, where is your tech school and what is your specialty choice? did you sign up for 4 years or 6 years?

will you come out of basic as an A1C, 2 striper? when i was in the 6 year enlistees did. if i had to do it all over i would have signed up for 6 and stayed in for 20. but life is choices and sometimes we make the wrong choice and have to live with it.

They have closed so many training bases it’s hard to tell which one you’ll go to. you might stay at Lackland. do you need to get a security clearance before you start school?

it will be screaming hot and humid down there so be prepared for it. San Antonio when i was there had only about 150,000 people now it is over 2 mil.

I am not sure but i think as long as you are active duty service you can fish anywhere and don’t need a license, just your military id. Unless you are TDY all the time you will have plenty of time to do some fishing. Should tell you on the DNR sites for particular states or Flyman will know more about it.

Anything you want to ask about Basic training, i’m sure me or flyman will have the answer. it’s an experience, more mental than physical.

Make sure you pay your state tax if you have to. when i was getting ready to get out after my 4 years i had 4 years of state tax to pay. they didn’t take it out of my pay. maybe now they will. i was under the advice of payroll as long as i was in i didn’t have to pay state tax. either i was misinformed or i got took. either way i paid 4 years of state tax when i was getting out. it wasn’t much i was only making 3k my first few years and i think 6k my last year.

Best of luck with that Jake. Pretty solid career getting in on military. A friend of mine is in the Coast Guard, he’s rolling in dough.

i know a 5.X:1 will slow your retrieve down but personally if i was fishing that small of crank baits or any bait i would use spinning tackle. but to each their own.

I am hoping for Special Investigations. My dad is a detective and some of the stuff he talks about sounds really cool and very interesting, that’s why I am going for Special Investigations.

If it casts anything like a Premier(which it has the same cast control system & smaller spool), it can handle light cranks just fine with the right line & rod. I was throwing 4” finesse worms on 3/16ths jigheads on 15lb fluoro with my Premier & that was on a pretty stiff 7’6” MH Verdict & I was getting plenty of distance on my casts. Thinking about it, I might just get a 6.x since the smaller spool will mean less IPT just like the CU50E, which I find pretty slow.

Either way, I’m very impressed with this reel on a quick look at specs & profile, can’t wait to get my hands on one.
