Impressive drag compared to the old ones! I wonder if they’ll update the PQ’s as well? The new extreme rods look sweet too! Bass pro is giving me a reason to not fish anything else! Just bought a Curado G7 from TW for 128 with their sale. I wonder if that’s the right choice now over these new carbonlites.

Holy Cow Jake! Good luck.  I’m the only male in my family not to join the Air Force.  Almost joined the Coast Guard.  I went to Cleveland took the physical and everything.  All I had to do was be sworn in at the recruiters, but something told me not to as I was driving there.  I sometimes wonder, but things worked out alright.

Talking more finesse type weights(3/16-1/4oz on 8-10lb line), not how I’ll be fishing it, is kind of what I was going for. tongue laugh

i know a 5.X:1 will slow your retrieve down but personally if i was fishing that small of crank baits or any bait i would use spinning tackle. but to each their own.

If it casts anything like a Premier(which it has the same cast control system & smaller spool), it can handle light cranks just fine with the right line & rod. I was throwing 4” finesse worms on 3/16ths jigheads on 15lb fluoro with my Premier & that was on a pretty stiff 7’6” MH Verdict & I was getting plenty of distance on my casts. Thinking about it, I might just get a 6.x since the smaller spool will mean less IPT just like the CU50E, which I find pretty slow.

Either way, I’m very impressed with this reel on a quick look at specs & profile, can’t wait to get my hands on one.

how long is plenty of distance? if you are happy with it go for it. GL. personally i just feel i got better control and more distance with spinning gear with that light of bait. 6.X:1 would be good just don’t crank as fast or you could just spool it maybe 3/4 full. smaller diameter of the spool with the line on it will retrieve less line. You ever notice how the last 20 feet come back real fast.

I threw a 1/4oz X-rap jerkbait pretty close to how far I bomb 1/2oz lipless cranks(but not quite as far) when I threw across the hardwater on my Powell 6’8” M XF/CU50E/10lb fluorocarbon set-up day before Thanksgiving, so distance won’t be a problem. I’ve become really comfortable with casting gear, I don’t really like using spinning unless I start getting 8lb or below line with tricky casting 1/4oz & lighter, with good casting 3/16oz lures being pretty doable on casting gear for me.

if you can cast it almost as far as a 1/2 oz lipless your are getting it way out there. by all means use your baitcaster. i’ve haven’t gotten the knack with my baitcasters to get that kind of distance with lighter baits. i feel good with my spinning tackle with line 12lb and less. i rarely throw anything in the 1/4 oz or less range anyway. About the smallest of anything i cast is at least 3/8 oz. I throw big baits almost exclusively because i target the bigger fish, i’ll catch the 10 and 12 inchers once in a while but the majority of the fish i do catch is 15” or better. GL and always remember, have fun, it’s what it is all about.
