how is your fishin doing? hope you are catching what us iced uppers can’t!
oh there is a little ice here on some small stuff but not much. Ive been doing most of my fishing in a powerplant lake lately.
Do storm fronts have an affect on powerplant lakes? I’ve been wondering that with some of the storms that we have had here lately.
sure they could but as long as they are pulling water to generate electricity and spitting out warm water, you got current and warmer water so that should dominate a front unless it is severe.
wish i had a power plant lake close by, actually i am going to have to look into it. 8 million people in chicagoland there should be a power plant lake somewhere close by making electricity.
lake lasalle is roughly 60 miles south west of chicago. maybe you should look into that? it claims it has 11 miles of shoreline fishing.
Got to be one closer but thanks, i’ll look into it.

I just called LaSalle Lake and they closed the lake for fishing for the season on October 15. Won’t open again till next April. Shoots that idea in the butt. LOL
Thanks for the link, starting to cool down outside and the wind it screaming out of the west today. i about passed out at 3:15 am this morning when i turned the weather channel on and it was 56 degrees.
i’ll check out the link but not really wanting to travel that much to fish right now. all my tackle is put away. When you fish busse, can you give me directions on how to get there. i only know 1 way and that was several years ago, to get on the bike path. thanks
For sure. Get to route 53 and exit higgins/golf road just east of Woodfield shopping center. Turn right at Higgins and take your first right into the Forest Preserve and head all the way back (stay right) until you see boat rentals, etc. There is tons of shore fishing available. Don’t bother with the front area to your left there is way to many people fishing there and it’s basically and huge cement peer.
We will talk more as it starts to warm up more in the next few months.

definitely,
by the way i checked out that link, lot of good info. I’ve been wanting to fish lake Sprinfield for a couple of years but heard it’s tough from the bank because a lot of the shore is private property. these powerplant lakes sound really good.

how about coming north on 83, that’s the way i know. I’m not from Chicago so anything outside of about 15 sq. miles i need directions or at least an address
83 north works to. take it to higgins and turn left (west). probably travel 2-3 miles on higgins and you will wind around a bit. When you get to Higgins and Arlington Heights road you are at the very East end of Busse Woods. Continue west about a mile all the way until just before route 53 and turn left into the forest preserve and stay right and go all the way back as mentioned above.
They have some big bass in Busse. Not sure if they have one as big as in your signature but I know that have 5 lbrs.

wierd thing is that not much current is created at all, infact I cant even tell when they pull. I went today, water temp way 67 at the launch and 70 on the dam next to the plant. managed one 3lbr on a big swimbait, but thats the only bite i had.

Usually power plant lakes have wing dams with a lot of rip rap. try a shallow running crank/lipless or a swim jig or a fluke or spinnerbait/chatterbait parallel or quartering to the rip rap. be careful and GL
No ice here. Just got back from fishing, walleye and bass are hitting hard still. 35 degree water fishing in 15 FOW on the bottom. 1/8oz jig head and a zoom tiny fluke.
