Do you guys ever just tie on an inline spinner like an old fashion meps spinner or Kastmaster and give it a toss?

For trout - yes…for bass, no

My personal best was caught on a Mepps Black Fury #5 & I caught quite a few on them this fall just before the winter hit. I fish ponds that don’t have toothy critters, so I can fish them for bass without worrying about that & the bass seem to like them. They’re an early spring/late fall bait, since they’re not as weed friendly as spinnerbaits & you can’t work them around weeds too much without getting them fouled. Fish them same conditions I would a spinnerbait, with some wind being a must.

Not for largemouth, but for pike, smallies, whites, and trout I do.

You can vertical jig a kastmaster in early spring/winter for bass, they hit them hard.

most of the guys that fish the Forest preserve lakes before the weeds get up throw an inline mepps, i never see them catch anything. personally i don’t use it for bass but i do have some in the 5/8 oz range that are supposed to be weedless, not a mepps but a terminator i believe and i will give those a try. They have a small fluke as a trailer on a 4/0 hook

I used them for years growing up. I liked to catch alot of fish, any fish so I tied a 0 or 00 on and went to town. 4lb test and an ultralight rod. When a decent sized bass would hit it was on, a 14in fish felt like a 5lber. Good times.

I don’t use them but I fish with a guy who swears by them.  His PB (just over 9lbs) was caught on an inline Mepps.  My brother was muskie fishing one day and he caught a 5lber on a big muskie inline.

Finally, Mike Iaconelli carries inlines in his “panic box” - http://www.mikeiaconelli.com/article.php?id=16

Yeah, I have terminator inline spinner I bought years ago.  It makes for a nice shad profile bait and I’ve caught fish on it.  I like the fact that it is compact, yet fairly heavy.  It’s more heavy than the small spinnerbaits but not weedless.  It’s a niche lure for me.  I don’t use it a lot.

Very occasionally I will.  I always have a few in the boat.  I haven’t had much luck with them in a while, but then again I haven’t given them much of a chance.

I know that they can catch big fish, they have for me before.

My biggest worry is that my wife (when I’m dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.

the more things change the more they stay the same. get all your old lures out guys that caught you a bunch of fish years ago. sharpen them hooks and fish them. they are now the newest and bestest thing you can throw. Old School!

^ fishing lures are like fashions it seems!

Next thing you know, you’ll see KVD and others in polyester jump suits!

I could see where lures like that would be in favor once again - people moved onto other things and the fish have not seen lures like that in ages.

I have an out of production jerk bait that I love using and catch a ton of fish on - in fact, I upgraded the hooks to triple grips to up my hit to catch ration.  It had a limited production run and has long since been discontinued (thank goodness for ebay)

My father in law was telling me how great meps were for smallies on the river till he took me out and I hauled in a bunch of fish (a lot more and larger than he was) with a jerk bait.  I seem to get better results with some other kind of bait.  I try lots of things ..but I mostly go with what they want to bite…I love topwater but I did fish it very much last year because it wasn’t producing bites.

I have tried them for smallies, caught nothing but little ones.. but it was fun. Plastics catch the bigger ones.
