What new lures/line/rods/reels/new waters/boat/etc are you looking forward to doing/trying for this year?

Lures: I got several I’m looking to use this year that I’ve not thrown before or thrown very little. 1, I’m gonna figure out how to catch fish on a jig if it kills me. I’ve got a good assortment of jigs & trailers, now I just need to catch a few & gain confidence in them. 2, jerkbaits,, hard & soft. I got bit on my first cast with a fluke, but didn’t really fish it a whole lot after that & I’ve never thrown a hard jerk other than launching it on the ice when I went out to fish at the end of this season. I’ve got the equipment & I think I’ve read enough to know when/where I should throw them, so I think I can catch some on them this year. 3 Deps Buzzjet. I’ve got 4 of them sitting on the pegboard wall, I’ve just been gunshy about throwing a close to $30 lure. I’m gonna spool up with some 20lb mono & try them out this year though.  4 R2S Dahlberg Diving Frog. I’ve read some bad reports about the legs tearing easy or melting, hopefully I don’t have that problem & they can catch me some fish. 5 R2S 130 Whopper Plopper. They work on musky & you read/hear about musky guys catching bass on them, so I’m sure a bass sized one will catch bass a plenty in right conditions.
Line: I’ve got 2 new lines I’m looking forward to using this year, one a new twist on an old favorite(Trilene XL Armour Coat) & the new Nanofil. I’ve got 2 20lb spools of XLAC that I’m planning on using for big topwaters & spinnerbaits. I’ve got 4lb Nanofil I’m gonna have on my panfish/crappie rod, since I was not all that happy with the distance I was getting with other lines I’ve tried. I think I’ve been missing the swarms by not getting the necessary distance to get to them & the Nanofil should help a lot in that regard.
Rods: I’ve got 2 new Powells to use for the upcoming year, a 6’8” M XF & a 7’1” H F that should both find their places in my collection. I have a CU50E to put on the M & I doubt it’ll ever have more than 10lb test used with it. The Paddletail rod I’ll probably put either my Revo Inshore or Patriarch 64WLP for slinging 4-5.5” soft swimbaits. The rod I’m sort of looking forward to the most is the new Villain rods by Abu. They’re just starting to hit now & I really want to get a 7’1” MH F to be my primary jig/t-rig rod.
Reels: I’m pretty much set here going into the year, outside of wanting to upgrade my STX-HSes to newer, lighter reels, but that’s not a high priority at all. I’m thinking I’ll get a MGX-SHS off eBay the beginning of next month when I’ll have some extra funds & sign up for Bill Me Later to try spreading out paying for it. I’d also like to pick up one of the new BPS Carbonlites & a Premier HS, but the MGX is higher on the list for me to go on the previously mentioned Villain rod.
New Waters: In general, I just want to get out to more new waters, don’t have any place I’m going specific planned out. I think it’d help me a lot, even on the waters I go to all the time to get somewhere new & figure something out & expand my experience.

My biggest worry is that my wife (when I’m dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.

Im not really loading up with any new tackle. What I have been buying are baits I know work and I have confidence in. I still need to place an order with Strike King for some plastics and pick up a 100 pack of Gamakatsu hooks off eBay. The rest is just odds and ends stuff.
I am making a Quantum order this year through the PAA. Have a few rods in mind and a couple reels. Looking forward to KVD’s new cranking sticks and the EXO rods/reels.

Fish more with my kids and teach them some more.

Fish some new lakes, learn how to be a better finesse fisherman, and fish a complete tournament schedule.

I got to pick and choose what i want to take depending on how i want to fish and where i am fishing. if i go to 2 or 3 places during the day, i might have 8 to 10 setups in the car. sure would be easier if i had the big bass boat like you guys. cost of living in chicago that is never going to happen. i am never going to have enough money. this year i am going to try and only take 3 setups at a time with me. i might have more in the car and can go back and exchange but it’s a pain carrying 4 or 5 setups around the bank with me through the tree, bushes and the mountains of the moon. 3 is just right. i can have 2 for technique specific and 1 for all purpose.

I really want to fish a carolina rig more. what is your favorite plastic to have on these?

other than that, just upsizing everything. I plan on throwing 1oz jigs and bigger swimbaits for LM. I do fish smallmouth alot so I really want to learn some new stuff for them.

I like the YUM! Zellamander and the Zoom Mag Lizard. For creature baits I use both the baby and regular Zoom Brush Hawgs and the Rage Tail Eeliminator. For craws I use Netbait Paca Craws.

I picked up a couple packs of the Havoc Devil Spears that I can’t wait to throw, especially at Okoboji. I am probably going to alternate fishing them like a swimbait/senko and light texas rig. I also got a pack of Big Ikas that I am going to try too. I need to hit BBK up for some of his Fat Ikas though. I’m also looking forward to throwing my senkos, beavers, and buzz frogs.

Even though I have already used this combo, I am looking forward to throwing my 50e and Micro Veritas this year.

As for line, I am trying 5 different spools of line. I picked up 3 spools of Abrazix in 15, 20, and 25lb test, 15lb Pline CX Premium, and 65lb Suffix 832.

I am going to some different lakes this year for my tournaments that I am looking forward to. My 1st one is at Banner Creek in Kansas in late April. I have a feeling that I am going to do mighty well with the help of my trusty lipless crank. Or if the rest of winter stays warm like it is right now I might even have to resort to bed fishing.

I’m excited to use my Jackall Aska 60 and Bling 55 square bills as well as the Iobee frog. I also got a new finesse spinning combo I’ll be using for flick shakes and dropshotting on 6lb test. This is the first spinning combo I’ve had in a while so it will be good to get back to it.

thats another thing I really am looking forward to this year, learning how to fish prespawn better. everyone says thats one of the easiest times to catch the big mommas, but I dont ever seem to.

I know how you feel, i caught a few decent fish last year in late June when spring started here, LOL, but no real hawgs or anything. Seems like the weather reduced my fishing year a couple of months, as with a lot of guys, it was cold and windy late into spring. ice out was way late last year. Maybe because i didn’t throw lipless or jerkbaits or cranks much last spring is the reason. i’m better prepared this spring, I hope!

If you’re looking for a deal on it, Amazon & Red’s Gear on their market place have 300 yard spools for $25-26, which is quite a bit better than the $40 it costs everywhere else. I haven’t fished it yet, but it casts as well as advertised.
