I was rather disappointed in my year up until October, outside of 2 crappie slaying days in the spring. I only had one fish over 4lbs & wasn’t catching the numbers I usually did, but I got four 4.5-5lbers in the span of about 2 weeks in October along with quite a few 3-4lbers as well, which made me a lot happier about my year. Looking forward to 2012, I hope to actually catch some big fish in the spring this year, since the only 4+ lbers I’ve caught in the spring was my personal best and another one in 09 before I went full on bass crazy.
last year was horrendous for me. I didn’t catch alot of fish, I didn’t fishing the FLW, did a couple local tourneys and bombed them. I’m not sure why it was so bad for me. I’ve forgotten last year all together. This year i’m goin back to FLW and trying it again. I caught some nice fish this year just pleasure fishing though
I had a phenomonal year! The 1st 3 outings combined I caught over 70 bass with 6 of them being over 4lbs. I didn’t get skunked once this year when I went out. I won my 1st tournament, got 2nd place at a tourny at the same lake later on in the year. My 2nd to last trip of the year yielded 16 bass with 8 over or close to 3lbs and a PB bass that weighed 5lbs 10oz. My last outing of the year was on new years eve and I caught 1 nice chunky bass. All in all it was a year to remember (fishing wise)!
I feel bad for everybody who didn’t get a good chance at fishing this year. :( I congratulate everybody who could! And for those who couldn’t, I hope you get a better chance next year!
I wasnt on the fish I wanted to be on last year either. I think I had one that was over 5. So the big bite eluded me. I did catch a lot more 3-4 pound fish then usual.
it was marginally better than the year before. important thing was i learned a lot, found new water to fish and have a lot more tackle than i had the year before.
I did catch more fish than the year before with 3 fish 5 lb or better and only fished half as much as the year before because of the weather mainly.
I think this year i am better equiped tackle wise and mentally to fish and catch fish in the colder water of early spring and won’t have to wait for the water to warm up to catch anything.
Starting Aril 1, first day of my retirement incidentally, i will be fishing. I’ll be able to fish a lot more, and a lot more during prime time when the bass are more active.
Got skunked half the time and never caught more than 2 bass in 1 pond in 1 day. this i definitely need to work on and i am pretty sure i know what i need to do. if it turns out i don’t i’ll be asking you guys.
I had a good year last year, my last tournament of the year was especially fun. I was into those big brown fish all day long as you can see in my picture. Although I didn’t land any 6lb + fish (they have a nack of throwing the bait back at you), I ended up with a 20lb. bag for 5. I caught 3 and 4 lb. fish almost all day long. Culling was a nightmare as fish were returned to the lake for mere ounces. The nice thing about it was that I had fresh fish in my livewell all day long. Several times I caught the same weight fish as my smallest which was 3.7 and was able to trade the earlier fish with a fresher fish. Not promote any particular bait, I will say that I caught them all on a SK Silent Squarebill. It was one of those days you cherish until the next time it happens.
I had a great year. Went out a least once a week most of the time two times a week. Caught a bunch of small mouth. I only got skunked once (late November so still pretty good) And while everyone was sitting in their deer stand I reeled in a giant.
I was able to catch fish in every tournament this year, no zeros, that was good. No huge fish a few 4s and 1 that was probally 5. I also lost more fish this year than ever before, so for me it was a wash of a year.

Nice job. The fact that you lost more fish last year means that your skills are improving, you hooked more fish. I’m Glad you had no zeros, it sure makes weigh-in a little more fun doesn’t it? Stay with the same baits and presentations but possibly change hooks and/or check them for sharpness more often. I constantly check my hooks throughout the day.

Sharp frickin hooks, hate to sharpen them but i spend hours totaled up during the year just sharpening frickin hooks, but i never lost a fish last year that i got a hook into, just don’t hook as many fish as i would like, LOL

Well Cincy like you stated in another thread, you may just need to go back to your old fish catching ways. It’s great how old baits come back around after fisherman stopped throwing them for a few years. The younger class fish haven’t seen them before. Yet they are still outstanding baits. The baits that comes to mind are the jerkbait and the Jitterbug . For years these baits were annihilating fish by the livewells full but when they peaked in popularity the fish became accustomed to them. Now that people aren’t using them as much the younger class fish who haven’t seen them before are biting on them. At least in my experience. I still enjoy throwing a black Jitterbug during a night fishing outing. The bass crush it.

Love the jitterbug, I fish strictly from the bank, no boat. where i fish mostly is Forest preserve lakes and they don’t open till 1 hour after sunrise and close 1 hour after sunset, but they close it before then. late last year i found new water to fish that doesn’t close, not part of the Forest Preserve system and threw the jitterbug some but it was too late in the year. I’ll be there this summer at night with a black jitterbug, buzzbait and a swimjig.
