I use baitcasters. Just started to use jigs. Found out the hard way, mono is poo. I did however catch my first jig fish and first bass of 2012 on 17lb trilene xl. I missed a few bites and lost 2 fish. I’m wanting to use some fluoro. Hearing its good for jigs. What size and brand? Will a copolymer work just as good? I dont fish much heavy cover unless its summer and I have extra spools if I had to spool some braid up. I’ve use p-line floroclear in 12lb. It’s not bad. I like it actually. Any thoughts? Was in the market for some 15-20lb fluoro or copolymer.

I am starting to use 15, 20, and 25lb Seaguar Abrazix this season. If the cover is super heavy and I know I have a chance at catching a pig then I will use 65lb15 braid.

I’m in agreement with LilJake and Stickum.  But something else to keep in mind is the water color.  If it’s clearer or slightly stained you might want to choose the flouro because braid is very visible.  But if the water is heavily stained or murky, go with the braid.

Something else you might want to look at is the jigs your using.  When you do catch a fish, look at where he is hooked.  It should be in the top of his mouth between the eyes.  If the jig is getting hooked in the side of the mouth, it may be due to the jig not sitting upright when the fish grabs it.  It’s important to have jigs that sit with the hook standing up high.  When the fish gets hooked in the side of the mouth, it is much easier for them to throw the hook and that may be why your losing some of them.  If this is the case, you may want to look into getting some different jigs.

Stay with the p-line just use a heavier test, 20 lb p-line should be good and much cheaper than fluoro, or use braid. forgot the Silver Thread Excalibur is great line, 17 lb should be heavy enough till u get into some heavy cover then use braid.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of P-Line.  That was the first flouro that I tried.  It comes off the roll good and spools good.  It works good for a while but then it starts to develop memory and gets brittle.  I tried line conditioner and it didn’t seem to help.  I’m currently Berkey Vanish Transition and it works great.  But I think the next flouro that I buy will be the Seaguar.  I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about it and I really want to give it a try.  But, it is pretty spendy so it’s not for everyone.

Any of the Sunline fluorocarbon lines are good. I’ve tried Sniper, Shooter, and Super. 14lb works for most of the jig fishing I do. If you have alot of nasty cover and are worried about breaking off then you could step it up to 16lb or 20lb test.

P line copoly is good (fluoro covered mono), but their fluoro is junk.

I liked the Silver thread Excalibur in 17. (also a copoly)

I used some of the silver thread fluoro in 12 for cranking and it was pretty good, I would use it again if I ever feel I need it.

I’ll be trying to figure out jig fishing this year, but I plan on using my t-rig set up which will have 15-20lb Spiderwire or Cajun fluorocarbon. I think I’m gonna have another set-up doubling as small topwater rod(1/4 to 1/2oz) with 12lb co-poly, either Gamma or Big Game Hi-Test, for lighter stuff.

heard the same thing about fluoro. wasn’t talking about p-line 100% fluoro, was talking more about P-line cx premium, it’s a fluro covered copoly. super thin and strong. my fault, i’ll be more specific next time, sorry.

That’s what I use, if I’m using a football head in deep water I’ll go down to 12-14 lb fluorclear in cleared water and trim the weekguard down, also take some of the weedguard to a very thin one (if that makes any sense)

I got a 20lb spool of Sniper on clearance and loved it.  I say that I’ll buy the Pline to save money, but that Sunline was great.  I’d like to try the 7lb for dropshotting.

I just tie on a regular palomar. FYI though if you’re fishing alot of wood and rocks, if the line gets frayed its game over. its super strong for sure, but if it gets a nick it in, its toast. I’ve never had my line break from the knot, ever, using this stuff. The heavier line is great it’s when you get to the 10lb and under with floroclear it tends to be a pain, but if you’re aware of your line it wont be a problem. I love this stuff. by the way, pline came out with this stuff called voltage, its supposed to be the same as floroclear but a little better? I use that now and its good stuff too.
